Various types of glomus anastomoses in developing rat fetuses.

Some observations on arteriovenous anastomosis (AVA) morphogenesis of rats were considered in this investigation. Interesting typical glomus anastomoses observed under light microscopy were determined by photography before evaluation. AVAs in the skin and mesentery were compared with those reported in morphological studies in the literature. Most of the glomus anastomoses were determined to be in conformity with those in the studies reported. Some resembled simple shunts and others complex glomus anastomoses. It is suggested that the existence of various types of anastomoses of rat fetuses during development is dependent on blood flow.

Numerical variations in human vertebral column: a case report.

Numerical increases in the elements of the vertebral column probably do not occur. In this case, 25 presacral vertebrae (PSV) were determined in the vertebral column of a 22-years-old male skeleton. Their distribution was as follows; 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 1 thoraco-lumbar, 5 lumbar. Sacrum contained 5 vertebrae. In addition, sacralization or lumbarization was not seen.

A radiological method on the classification of human mandibular condyles.

A radiological quantitative method applied in the classification of 210 mandibular condyles from 105 male and female subjects, aged 18-62 with no temporomandibular disorders has been taken up in this study. Through coronal sections, types of condyles were first determined by computer tomography (CT) per anterio-posterior aspects and then divided into four main groups described as flat, convex, angled and round. Then, using the parameters, every condyle type was divided into three subgroups. Finally, the percentage of each group has been estimated as follows: flat, 14.3%; convex, 35.2%; angled, 35.7% and round, 14.8%. When the condylar type was compared with sex, it was observed that the angled type (39.6%) in males and the convex type (40.3%) in females were higher than the other types. In the analysis of the relationship between age and condylar types, there appeared to be a trend toward an increase in the incidence of flat and a decrease in the incidence of convex with an increase in the age of males. In addition, following the determination of bilateral symmetry and asymmetry the bilateral asymmetry was determined to be higher in both sexes (56.2%).

Development of arteriovenous anastomoses in Rattus norvegicus species during the fetal period.

In this study carried out on the development of arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs) in Rattus norvegicus species, the fetus was followed up 10 days after post coitum (pc). The sections obtained from the fetuses of 10-20-day rats were subjected to the usual processes for examination under the light microscope. Various staining processes were applied on the preparations and the simple and glomus types of AVAs determined in the mesenchyme of fetuses observed to birth every day. The regions with AVAs were then photographed by photomicroscopy and evaluated. From the 10-day embryo to birth, an increase in the smooth muscles in the wall structure of simple anastomoses was observed. It was however very difficult to follow up this increase in glomus anastomoses because the wall structure is more complicated. Their morphology was examined and compared with that in literature.
