Barkas effect for antiproton stopping in H2.

We report the stopping power of molecular hydrogen for antiprotons of kinetic energy above the maximum (approximately 100 keV) with the purpose of comparing with the proton one. Our result is consistent with a positive difference in antiproton-proton stopping powers above approximately 250 keV and with a maximum difference between the stopping powers of 21%+/-3% at around 600 keV.

[Efficacy and tolerability of paracetamol-sobrerol combination in patients with hyperpyrexia].

The therapeutic efficacy and tolerability of the association paracetamol-sobrerol in comparison with paracetamol alone, was tested in a double-blind, randomized clinical trial, carried out on 287 out-patients, suffering from diseases of the respiratory tree with fever. The treatment was performed for up to five days. At the end of the treatment, both treatments lead to an important improvement of all considered clinical parameters; furthermore, the association paracetamol-sobrerol showed a statistically important difference versus paracetamol alone as to cough and difficulty to expectorate. As to body temperature, both paracetamol and paracetamol-sobrerol showed a good antipyretic activity; furthermore, the association compared to paracetamol alone obtained a statistically significant differences in times x treatments. These data fully confirm the results obtained from recent studies: the simultaneous administration of paracetamol and sobrerol obtains a better antipyretic action than paracetamol alone. This synergism allows to reduce paracetamol doses and, consequently, to eliminate the already low incidence of adverse reactions, without decreasing the antipyretic activity.

Binding of (3H)R5020 to progesterone receptor and serum contaminants in human endometrium.

The binding of [3H]R5020 to cytosol from human endometrium was utilized to evaluate the concentration of progesterone receptor by means of agar gel electrophoresis, using D-norgestrel as cold competitor. It was observed that radioligand binds predominantly to the receptor, and that serum contaminants such as albumin and corticosteroid-binding globulin do not interfere in the assay procedure.

Levels of estrogen and progesterone receptor in human endometrium during the menstrual cycle.

Receptors for estrogens and progesterone have been assayed in 24 samples of normal human endometria at different phases of the menstrual cycle. In the proliferative endometrium the concentration of estrogen binding sites was significantly higher than that of progesterone receptor while, in the secretive endometrium, the concentration of estrogen receptor was low, compared to that of progesterone receptor. The highest concentration of both receptors was observed during the periovulatory period. From the correlation observed between estrogen and progesterone receptors and the levels of the respective steroids in the plasma, it is suggested that the levels of plasma estradiol or its own tissue receptor determine the synthesis of progesterone receptors in the periovulatory period.
