[Delivery at the Institute for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Messina University Polyclinic. Comparison of two periods].

BACKGROUND: Delivery methods and current pregnancy monitoring, comparing the last twenty-years in the light of new medical and diagnostic findings are presented. METHODS AND RESULTS: Moreover, examining carefully vaginal and laparotomic delivery it is to be noticed that a more careful wait can increase spontaneous deliveries, with the due exceptions, so that the rate of cesarean section is established on current values. CONCLUSIONS: At last it is to be hoped that maternal mortality and morbility decrease and particularly fetal mortality so as to guarantee a future devoid of psychophysic handicaps to newborn infants.

[The ovarian renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system].

The ovarian renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (OVRAS), although not fully known, appears to play an important role in ovarian physiology (steroidogenesis, follicular stage, ovulation). The possibility of manipulating ovarian function by means of the pharmacological modulation of OVRAS opens new horizons for the control of human reproduction.

[Membranous glomerulonephritis and pregnancy].

The authors report two pregnancies that occurred within a brief period of time in the same woman, who suffered from a histologically diagnosed membranous glomerulonephritis. The good final result is to be related to the active cooperation among obstetrists and nephrologists specialists. Moreover, they point out the full unsuitability of the schemes for the evaluation of the obstetric risk in women with chronic pathologies.

[Use of angiopneumography with Tc-99M in 2 cases of pneumopathy caused by anatomical defect].

A parallel study, using traditional angiopneumographic technique with iodate contrast medium and the radioisotopic technique employing 99MTc has been carried out in some cases of bronchopulmonary malformations due to anatomic defect. The purpose of this is to assess the angiographic performance at pulmonary circulation level of an extremely simple radioisotopic technique. Analysis of the two cases presented suggests that although radioisotopic angiopneumography presents lower resolution capacity for viewing small and medium lumen branches of the pulmonary artery, it has the advantage of associating the results of traditional angiopneumography with statis pulmonary scintigraphy in a single exploration. It is considered that this investigation can be used particularly in those patients with severe cardiorespiratory insufficiency, for whom the invasive technique presents some by no means inconsiderable risks.
