Neonatal solitary renal cysts associated with posterior urethral valves.

Large simple cysts of the kidney are common findings in adults but are extremely rare in neonates. Three cases of large solitary renal cysts in newborn boys associated with posterior urethral valves are described. The pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and differentiation from urinoma secondary to spontaneous urinary extravasation are discussed.

Transvaginal milking of lower ureteric stones into the bladder.

In a selected group of adult female patients, stones in the lower ureter were transvaginally milked into the bladder. The transvaginal milking of lower ureteric calculi into the bladder is easy and safe and is recommended in the poor surgical risk patient.

Detrusor hyperreflexia in multiple sclerosis. Alleviation by a combination of imipramine and propantheline, a clinico-laboratory study.

16 patients with multiple sclerosis, complaining of urgency, frequency and urge incontinence were studied urologically. They all suffered from detrusor hyperreflexia. We managed to improve this disturbance by lowering the parasympathetic tone and at the same time increasing the sympathetic tone of the urinary outlet, using a combination of imipramine and propantheline. The subjective clinical alleviation was also corroborated by cystomanometry and urethral pressure profile before and after treatment.

The acute effects of various cytotoxic compounds injected into the prostate glands of dogs.

The acute effects of direct injections with various cytotoxic compounds into the prostates of adult dogs were studied microscopically. The effects remained localised to the site of injection, with no diffusion of the agents into other areas of the prostate. No systemic effects were observed despite the high concentrations used. The main histological changes consisted of local aseptic necrosis at the injection site surrounded by atrophy of the acinar epithelium.

Transvesical submucosal diverticulectomy. Experience with 48 cases.

An intravesical, submucosal technique, without peri- or transvesical drainage, for surgical treatment of large bladder diverticula was successfully used in 48 patients. This is a recommeded procedure, easily performed, without fear of endangering the adjacent organs.

Intraprostatic Injections of various antitumour compounds into rats: Part II. Chronic effects.

Histopathological studies were carried out at intervals of one, two and three months after a single injection of one of seven antitumour compounds into the prostates of adult male CR rats. The histological findings indicate mainly a long term effect of the compounds tested on the glandular epithelium of the rat prostate. The effect is strictly local and no side effects were seen.
