[Primary idiopathic myocardiopathies].

Forty eight cases with primary idiopathic myocardiopathies were diagnosed in clinical conditions for a period of 2 years. Among the patients, being mainly young, at the age of 17-20--hypertrophic myocardiopathies predominated (44 cases), 27 of them were obstructive forms. Modern investigation methods were used in making the diagnosis of the cases, including cardiac probe with angio--and ventriculography, isotope gamma cardiographic, echocard ographic investigations as well as pharmacodynamic follow up of murmur findings with alfa beta blockers. Pseudoinfarction ECG images in young people, presence of systolic murmur of expulsion with p.m. at B. Erb and X-ray data for symmetric or asymmetric hypertrophy of the heart were the indicating sings for the diagnosis. The presence and recording of expulsion murmurs is stressed upon in making the diagnosis of those diseases which after alfa and beta blockers alter their intensity and character, the infarction-like ECG and especially the significance of echocardiography.

[Intracardiac phonocardiography in young persons with congenital heart defects].

Thirty nine persons 17 to 22 years old with mild forms of an interatrial defect, stenosis and congential dilation of the pulmonary artery were examined. During catheterization of the right heart intracardiac phonocardiography and characteristic systolic murmurs in the pulmonary artery and in the right ventricle were recorded, all this being of help in precisely diagnosing these minor and, therefore, atypical clinical forms of the malady.

[Studies of the normal tonometric values of the right branches of the cardiovascular system in young people].

The data from right cardiac catheterization 68 youths (aged 18--22) with murmurs of functional nature are used. Through the methods of oxihemometry, tonometry and intracardial phonocardiography the possibility of clinically supposed heart defect-congenital or acquired--is excluded. Based on statistical processing, the author proposes norms for the pressure in right auricle, right ventricle, pulmonary artery and pulmonary arterioles.

A QSAR study of the antimalarial activity of some synthetic 1,2,4-trioxanes.

The antimalarial activity of a series of synthetic 1,2,4-trioxanes is correlated with molecular structure by using a pharmacophore search method (CATALYST). The technique is shown to have predictive accuracy and confirms that docking between an active trioxane and the receptor, heme, is the crucial step for drug action.

Correlating the molecular electrostatic potentials of some organic peroxides with their antimalarial activities.

The molecular electrostatic potentials (MEPs) of artemisinin (also known as qinghaosu), yingzhaosu A, and some synthetic analogues have been calculated and studied as a means of distinguishing between high and low antimalarial activity. To facilitate comparison, the dimensionality of the MEP was reduced by Kohonen Neural Network transforms. The reduction revealed that peroxides exhibiting high antimalarial activity are characterized by a continuous strip of negative electric potential surrounding the molecule, whereas peroxides of lesser activity show a broken strip.

Bicyclonucleosides and ring-chain interconversion.

Four types of bicyclonucleosides differing in the easiness of their ring-chain interconversion have been prepared, some exhibited anti-HIV activity and the ratio of their cyclic and open-chain forms could have some bearing on their biological activity.
