[Interaction of TSH with human plasma membranes from normals and diseased thyroid glands (author's transl)].

Binding of TSH to plasma membranes purified from normal human thyroid gland is specific, saturable and dependent upon temperature, time, pH and salt concentration (standard assay conditions: 27 degrees C, 30 min, pH 7.8, 20 mM Tris). Displacement curve of 125I-TSH by unlabelled TSH shows a curvilinear relationship between B/F and B which can be interpreted by the presence of two sites with apparent binding constants about 5 nM and 500 nM and capacities of about 3 and 30 pmol/mg membrane protein, respectively. Systematic study of binding characteristics of membranes from 6 normal glands, 7 euthyroid multinodular goitres, 14 Graves' goitres and 2 toxic nodules do not show difference in the dissociation constants and capacities of sites between normal and diseased thyroid and between nodular and perinodular tissue in toxic nodules.

[Transsphenoidal surgery in hypersecreting pituitary tumors: endocrine follow-up (author's transl)].

Among 18 patients suffering prolactin adenoma and 16 acromegalic patients, plasma levels of PRL and HGH respectively returned to normal vlues (PRL = 9 +/- 2 ng/ml HGH = 4.2 +/- 0.8 ng/ml) immediately after selective removal of the pituitary adenoma by transsphenoïdal route. In all cases tumoral symptoms were reduced. Menses were recovered 36 +/- 5 days after surgery in all patients with prolactin adenoma. Pregnancy succeeded in nine of these women. Per-operative studies of HGH and PRL plasma variations proved to be of good prognostic value. The evaluation of the pituitary functions was performed before and after surgery. In no case pituitary deficiency occured after treatment. Furthermore the regulation of somatotropic and prolactin functions have been documented by the use of different provocative tests before and after treatment. They allow discussion of the pathogenecity of these hypersecreting tumors.

[Surgical results in prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas (a propos of 40 personal observations)].

The authors present a serie of 40 histologically verified prolactin secreting adenomas. Thirty-four women and six men were explored using the usual techniques and operated by the transphenoidal approach with biological follow-up 3, 6 and 12 months post-operatively. Results were a function of tumor size and invasive potential. Although amelioration of the tumoral syndrome always resulted, fonctional and biological normalization were inconstant. Complementary anti-prolactin treatment (C.B. 154) was begun in the non-normalized patients, especially in the cases of invasive adenoma. --Normalization was achieved in 95% of enclosed adenomas, --In 61% of invasion adenomas. In those patients normalized following surgery a return to normal rythmic prolactin secretion was observed.

[The present state of hormonal investigation in amenorrhoea (author's transl)].

The value or plasma radio-immune assays of steroid and pituitary hormones in amenorrhoea is discussed. The accent is placed on the need for repeated plasma sampling. Dynamic tests aimed at investigating the hypothalamo-hypophysial-ovarian axes are analysed. A proposal is put forward for a scheme of investigation that will make better use of these tests.
