[Effects of transcranial laser irradiation in near infrared range on antinociceptive reactions in mice after administration of diazepam, clopheline and morphine].

The experiments were carried out on white mice whose brain was irradiated transcranially with laser light in infrared range. Exposure to irradiation was 20 min. In one group of animals only laser light was used, in others laser was combined with morphine (3mg/kg), clonidine (0.5 mg/kg), and diazepam (1 mg/kg) injected intraperitoneally. The nociceptive reactions were studied with the help of "tail-flick" and "hot-plate" tests. It was found that laser light did not modify significantly the results of both tests. Moreover, it didn't influence the antinociceptive properties of morphine, clonidine and diazepam in the "hot-plate" test. In the "tail-flick" test laser light did not affect the action of clonidine, but provided naloxone-independent antinociceptive reaction with diazepam and increased the antinociceptive effect of morphine. Laser irradiation of the brain did not cause any significant morphological changes. These results suggest the possibility of modulating antinociceptive actions of morphine and diazepam by laser irradiation of the brain.

[Volume load in the evaluation of functional reserves of the heart in reconstructive surgery of the abdominal aorta and its branches].

A review of the results of volume load tests, carried out in the presence of intracardiac hemodynamic monitoring in 19 patients with abdominal aortic diseases and attendant coronary heart disease, has demonstrated that the productivity curve slope and left-heart pumping coefficient are the most valuable criteria for the assessment of cardiac functional reserve. Volume load tests identified 12 patients with limited functional reserve of the heart as being in need of continuous intra- and postoperative inotropic support and pre- and poststress control in the presence of central hemodynamic monitoring.

[Effect of the components of electro-drug anesthesia and ataralgesia on the appearance of hepato-specific enzymes in the blood].

The influence of diazepam, droperidol, fentanyl and central transcutaneous electrical stimulation (ES) on hepatocytes was studied in experiments on healthy rats (group I). Organospecific enzymes (histidase and urokinase) were chosen for the evaluation of side effects of drugs and their combination with ES on physiological functions of the liver. Drugs and their combinations with ES used in the clinical practice caused no marked damage of hepatocytes in healthy animals. A pronounced decrease in the above enzyme activity (3-fold, as compared to the control group) was revealed in rats with acute cholestasis and pancreatitis 72 h after ES. This fact shows hepatoprotective effects of ES. The most marked unfavourable effect on hepatocytes was registered in group II, where fentanyl was used.

[Effect of transcutaneous transcerebral electrostimulation as electroanesthesia on the beta-endorphin content of the cerebrospinal fluid and blood plasma].

The beta-endorphin content was measured in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood plasma of patients before and after 30 minutes of transcutaneous transcerebral electric stimulation in the electric anesthesia mode. The output current was biphasic and rectangular. It was composed of high-frequency pulse trains (peak-to-peak intensity 250-300 mA, frequency 167 kHz) modulated by low frequency (77 Hz). Electrical stimulation resulted in an appreciable increase in the beta-endorphin content in the CSF and blood plasma of patients. The data obtained attest to the intensification of the neuromodulator release to the CSF and blood plasma and to the involvement of the endorphinergic brain systems in the realization of the analgetic effect of transcutaneous transcerebral electric stimulation.

[Inactivated sodium channels are blocked by the anti-arrhythmic cordaron].

The blocking action of the antiarrhythmic cordaron (amiodaron hydrochloride) on Na currents in the frog node of Ranvier was studied by the voltage-clamp technique. It was established that the degree of the cordaron-induced block can be reversibly increased by long-term (1 s and more) membrane depolarization. The time constants of both the development and recovery from the block caused by membrane depolarization are of the order of hundreds of seconds ("induced slow sodium inactivation"). The fraction of blocked channels rises to some limiting level with an increase in the magnitude of the depolarizing step, the region of strong voltage dependency being between -130 and -70 mv. The inhibition of outward potassium current by 7.10(-4) M cordaron does not exceed 15%. The time- and voltage-dependent block of Na channels is supposed to result from interaction of the antiarrhythmic with inactivated channels.

[Effect of nootropil and contvykal on the structural changes in the central nervous system in hypoxic brain edema].

The brain cortex of rabbits exposed to 15-minute ishemia in the presence of monitored hypotonia was studied in 27 experiments in order to verify the efficacy of nootropil and contrykal as agents intended for the treatment of posthypoxic edema of the brain. The therapeutic efficacy was assessed on the basis of the evidence obtained with the aid of light and electron microscopy. It was found that nootropil exerts a favourable action on the ultrastructure of intracellular organella of the neuron: mitochondria, lysosomes, ribosomal apparatus, nuclear envelope, etc. Under the effect of nootropil and contrykal the posthypoxic microcirculatory changes showed signs of compensation and proved reversible. Manifestations of posthypoxic edema of the brain were less pronounced. It is suggested that the efficacy of the treatment regimen offered is related to the normalizing effect of nootropil on metabolic and repair processes in neurons and cellular elements pertaining to the microcirculatory system as well as with a direct action of contrykal on the local factors of capillary permeability.
