The paper deals with the formation of cellular mechanisms of integration in the course of conditioned reflex elaboration. Primary integration consists in an interaction between the effects of the conditioned (CS) and unconditioned (US) stimuli on neurons, which leads to a stable connection between them. The subsequent, final integration consists in the joining up of these cells into special populations with common functional properties in relation to the paired stimuli. Primary integration is achieved either by the mechanism of addition of the elaborated reaction to the CS to the response to the US, or by joining an adequate reaction to the CS of the elaborated response to the US. The final integration is apparently achieved by the mechanisms of transmition from one neuron to another of the formed connection between the paired stimuli along one path common for the association as a whole.

The activity of neurones in the motor cortex, caudate nucleus, putamen and globus pallidus was studied during elaboration of motor conditioned reflexes to time in rabbits, treated with 1-amphetamine and haloperidol. Mechanisms of reproduction of cells trace activity in the reflex to time at the omission of trials, reacted to 1-amphetamine by increasing the intensity of reactions in the motor cortex and inactivation in putamen cells. The curve of dynamics of intensity changes of trace discharges in the course of a series of trials omissions remained unaltered only in motor cortex; in the other structures it significantly differed from the norm of intact animals. Haloperidol depressed the mechanisms of reproduction of trace reactions of the globus pallidus cells, and made them almost fully inactive in the motor cortex; the putamen neurones reacted to haloperidol by an increase of trace reactions intensity. Against the background of the animal chronic 1-amphetamine intoxication, haloperidol normalized the dynamics and intensity of trace activity. "Therapeutic" effect of haloperidol was most distinctly expressed in the motor cortex and putamen cells, less--in the caudate nucleus and was completely absent in the globus pallidus.

The activity of 35 identified Purkinje cells was studied in rabbits in the process of elaboration of motor conditioned reflexes (fore-leg flexion) to clicks. 22 cells exhibited significant conditioned responses: 12 cells -- activation and 10 cells--inhibition ones. The elaboration of activation responses was due mainly (10 cells out of 12) to the excitatory effect of the unconditioned stimulus (electro-cutaneous stimulation) on the cell. The inhibitory responses in the majority of cells (7 out of 10) were elaborated in accordance with their responses to the conditioned stimulus. The Purkinje cells which responded to electro-cutaneous stimulation with "complex" spikes, throughout pairings acquired the ability to respond with the same spikes to the conditioned stimulus. The mechanisms of transformation of the response pattern of Purkinje cells to the conditioned and unconditioned stimuli in the course of the conditioning are discussed.
