To assess the toxicity of urine samples on human fibroblast cell monolayer using Shell-vial technique for cytomegalovirus antigen detection. A total of 227 urine samples were processed, inoculated on Shell-vial simultaneously, being either diluted (1:1) and non diluted in transport media. After 24-48 hours incubation, the fibroblast cells monolayer was stained using fluorescein-marked monoclonal anti-cytomegalovirus antibodies. Cytomegalovirus was detected in 9.6% of samples inoculated with diluted urine, and in 5.2% of samples inoculated with non-diluted urine. Destruction of monolayer cells was seen in 13.2 and 22.4, respectively. With Shell-vial technique for detecting cytomegalovirus in urine samples, a high number of positive results was obtained using diluted urine. Also a significant minor destruction of cells monolayer was observed with the same inoculum.
Plant cells by means of their totipotency and aided by in vitro culture techniques can be induced to perform morphogenesis leading to somatic embryoids and massive clonal multiplication; microspores or pollen can be triggered to recover haploid plants, then characters expressed via haploidy can be selected and fixed. Protoplasts from different species can lead to recombinations. We report here work done on Carica pubescens, where somatic embryoids were obtained from cells; in Prunus avium androgenesis leading to pollen calli was triggered, while plants were recovered from Nicotiana tabacum anthers. Fusion products were obtained using C. pubescens and C. papaya protoplasts, leading up to calli and shoots.

The resistances of 1,156 stocks of Salmonella isolated between 1980-1981 were compared with the 1,528 stocks of Salmonella obtained between 1986-1987 against three elective antibiotics such as ampicillin, chloramphenicol, and cotrimoxazole. The number of resistant stocks and the resistances to the above antibiotics are increasing (9.7% during the first period and 13.6% during the second, p = 0.002). Resistances to multiple agents increased from 1.8% to 4.38% (p = 0.0006). During the period of 1986-1987 there were stocks resistant to the three studied antibiotics.
