Database on individual cases of acute poisonings.

A database on individual cases of acute poisonings has been established at the Clinic of Acute Poisonings, Institute of Occupational Medicine. About 3,000 patients yearly are admitted to the Clinic and the mean period of stay is 3-4 days. On the basis of the RDBMS Professional Oracle a method has been designed to prepare, update and select data about the Clinic's patients. The system has been established with a view of developing research on diagnostics and treatment of acute poisonings. Previously, such a study was highly time and effort consuming. Moreover the retrospective material was often inadequate for a detailed analysis. Now, the computer storage of data, makes their utilization more effective and efficient.

Reliability and validity of the Beck Depression Inventory for a white and Mexican-American gerontic population.

Scores on the Beck Depression Inventory from 51 white and Mexican-American gerontic subjects (M age = 70.2 yr.) gave an internal consistency coefficient of .80, so reliability was satisfactory. A parallel validity paradigm yielded a significant product-moment coefficient of .79. No significant mean differences emerged for sex of respondents or for ethnic groups, contributing support for use of Beck's scale with aging minority groups. Beck's scale appears reliable and valid for use in written self-report applications.

[Influencing bladder motility in patients with radiologicaly treated cervix cancer].

The tonometric index as an expression of the motility of the urinary bladder was determined in 37 cases of carcinoma of the uterine cervix degree II b and III only treated by contact and external irradiation before, during and after this therapy. After application of about 4000 R to the dorsal parts of the bladder the tonometric index increases to one third. 6 weeks after the end of irradiation normal values are obtained.
