[Carcinoma of the colon. Results of surgical therapy].

The results of surgical treatment in 1032 patients with adenocarcinoma of the colon are demonstrated. In 90% a tumorresection was carried out. In 83% this resection was curative. The more advanced cancers could be found in the colon above the sigmoid. Preoperative tumor complications occurred more frequently in this area. The postoperative mortality rate after resektion of colonic carcinomas was overall 8.3% (elective surgery 6.6%; emergency surgery 20%). In the right colon an anastomotic leakage happened in 5.6%, in the left colon in 9.1%. In the right colon this complication was with a mortality rate of 67%, twice as high. The analysis of the survival rates proved that prognosis depends on the tumor stage, not on the location of the colonic cancer.

[Successful therapy of accidental deep hypothermia].

A case of extreme accidental hypothermia to 23,5 degrees rectal temperature in a 79 years old female with a skull-brain-trauma is reported. Under continuous monitoring and maintenance of vital functions, we succeeded by means of slow surface rewarming in prevention of noxious side effects on the circulatory system. The favourable course during the rewarming process probably was due to elimination of thermoregulation in brain trauma. The patient had a good longterm out-come.

[Diagnostic and therapeutic value of intraoperative choledochoscopy. Experience in 600 common bile duct explorations].

The management of choledocholithiasis has been greatly improved by recent technological advances such as X-ray and endoscopy of the biliary tract. During the past 10 years the common bile duct has been explored in 600 operations. The incidence of retained stones was reduced to only one stone in 76 explorations. The procedure was carried out without increasing the complication rate beyond that of a standard choledochotomy.

[Fluoride metabolism in the rat. 3. Distribution in the gastrointestinal tract after oral application].

With relation to the investigation of the mechanism of absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, the present third communication deals with a study of the distribution or absorption of fluorine-18 after oral application. This mode of application creates experimental conditions simulating the conditions of water fluoridation. Special attention is paid to the fluorine distribution or absorption in the following six portions: stomach, segments 1--3 of the small intestine, coecum und rectum. Furthermore, the question of its possible accumulation in the soft parts and its retention in the hard tissues were examined as compared with the results from intravenous application.
