Routine fluoroscopy using minispot cameras.

Routine fluoroscopy was performed using 100- and 105-mm spot film cameras. Radiation dose was reduced to between 30% and 43%, and cameras were acceptably reliable. Cost for film and holders was high.

Respiratory arrest--a fatal complication of myelography.

Respiratory arrest occurred in a patient undergoing cervical myelography in the Trendelenberg position. Autopsy revealed infiltration of the phrenic nerves by metastatic breast cancer resulting in diaphragmatic paralysis. Though this is a very rare complication of myelography, it is suggested that more attention be paid to the respiratory function of patients with neurological conditions prior to myelography.

Skin reactions with iocetamic acid.

Four cases of severe skin reactions to the use of iocetamic acid as a contrast medium are reported. Although the incidence of this type of reaction was relatively small (1.8%), its severity induced the authors to discontinue the use of this medium.

The use of photochromic eyeglasses by radiologists.

Photochromic lenses which undergo a change in density with varying intensities of sunlight have been incorporated into routine eyeglasses. Laboratory tests have shown that glasses of this type do not decrease the visual acuity of the radiologist.
