[Dependence of the formation of the addictive personality on the predisposing factors].

During observation of 100 patients with consequences of different types of drug-addictions (heroin, opium, poly-drug, pervitine-ephedrine) a complex of social and biological factors was analyzed: heredity, premorbid personality, somatic diseases, nurture, age of the onset of drug-addiction, duration of drug abuse, a social behavior. Influence of these factors was studied according to the following parameters: alteration of personality; degree of the moral-ethic decline and of the intellectual-mnestic disorders; somatic complications; the presence of the suicidal trends; frequency of self-damages; a professional level; family interrelations; frequency of the delinquencies (including conviction). On the basis of the correlation analysis it was established that the most significant unfavorable prognostic factors, which had determined a rate of the formation of the addictive personality were the following (in order of the decrease of significance): perinatal pathology; family history of alcoholism, drug-addiction and other mental diseases; personality deviations in premorbid period; an early age of the onset of drug addiction; a type of the drug; education; alcoholic abuse before the addiction; duration of the addiction.

[Electric stimulation of the brain in patients with hepatocerebral Wilson-Konovalov's degeneration (neuromorphological and neurophysiological analysis)].

36 stereotactic operations were carried out in 27 patients. Either the total lack of hyperkinesis or its significant decrease was found in 17 cases; 5 patients died. There was no correlation between manifestations of hepatocerebral degeneration and relatively normal quantitative characteristics of both cortical and subcortical biopotentials. These potentials are produced on the background of the microstructural changes in the neurons of the same regions. It is suggested that qualitative importance of such biopotentials lies in their exceeding pathologic impulsation, arising hyperkinesis. That was confirmed by the fact, that hyperkinesis eliminates after surgical destruction of the ventrolateral nucleus of the thalamus and the subthalamic structures.

["Addictive" personality].

The paper presents an observation of 100 patients (84 men, 16 women) aged 13-50 years (mean 25 +/- 6.7 years) with different forms of drug addiction, namely: heroin, opiate, pervitin-ephedrone addiction as well as polynarcomanias. The duration of drug addiction ranged from 1 to 24 years (mean 4.35 +/- 2.25 years). No matter what the type of a drug was abused, all patients had levelled off individual personal traits and some formed peculiar narcomanic defect. It was characterized by elevated excitability, gradually progressing affective disorders in form of dysphoric or apathoabulic depressions, affective lability, prevailing hysteric-excitable forms of responses, psychosocial dysfunction as gradually decreasing interests, different anomalies of the emotional sphere, impuls control disorders, including sexual ones. A moral-ethic decrease was pronounced as well as transient intellectual-mnestic disturbances. By and large personality disorders were qualified as an "addictive personality".

[Mental disorders in patients who abuse homemade opiates].

194 male patients with narcomania caused by home-made opiates' abuse were observed. The age of patients was 18-45 years, narcotization period lasted 3-22 years. In all the patients psychopathological symptoms were observed during all stages of disease. There were both affective and psychopathic-like disorders as well as the changes of personality. The psychic disorders were especially pronounced in the acute period of abstinence syndrome but were also observed during the remote stages of disease as well as during remission. There were different variations and types of affective disorders in different stages of disease. The two types of remissions were recognised with prevalence of depression at the first type and emotional lability and psychopathy at the second. The formation of psychopathic-like defect was quite typical for this type of opiate narcomania.

[Families of drug addicts].

Altogether 47 families of patients suffering from narcomania were examined. It was discovered that the incidence of endogenous psychoses among the relatives of different degrees of kinship did not go beyond the populational norm. The data on alcohol abuse in the families considerably exceeded the highest parameters of normal. A tendency was noted towards increase of alcoholism proneness from the third degree of kinship to the first one in the musculine line. The genealogical analysis provided evidence on the increased rate of the hedonist and excitable traits of character in the musculine lines and of hysterical disorders in the feminine line.

[Ephedrine addiction].

Neurologic and psychopathologic disturbances were studied in patients with DL-ephedrine addiction. The patients were also subjected to echoencephalography. The authors identified the period of acute narcotic intoxication, the abstinence syndrome and the period of chronic intoxication. The recommendations on the treatment of the above patients are presented.

[Late endogenous psychoses in light of clinico-genealogic research].

The families of 170 probands with late manifest endogenic psychoses (schizophrenia and manic-depressive psychoses) were studied. Late schizophrenia was found to be genetically related to schizophrenia on the whole. The families of patients with late schizophrenia were characterized by accumulation of typical schizophrenic psychoses and schizoid anomalies of the character. In the parents and siblings of such patients the rate of schizophrenia was significantly lower than in the families of patients with early manifestations. In the children of probands the risk of schizophrenia development was approximately identical in both late and early manifestations. The families of patients with late manic-depressive psychosis presented the accumulation of both affective and schizophrenic psychoses. The frequency of the latter grew from generation to generation.

[Clinico-genetic characteristics of psychoses with a clinical picture of involutional melancholia].

The author examined 34 probands with late endogenous paroxysmal psychoses and a characteristic picture of involutional melancholy at a certain stage of the disease. The accumulation of schizophrenia and affective psychoses among the next-kin relatives of these patients was significantly lower than in the families of patients with paroxysmal schizophrenia and manic-depressive psychosis of an early onset, but at the same time it was considerably higher than the risk of morbidity in the general population. No accumulation of psychoses of any other nosological nature (including those of a mentality deteriorating type) was observed. A possible genetic relationship between the disorder in the group of patients under study and the presence of "involutional" symptomatology with endogenous psychoses in the clinical picture of "the disease is discussed.

[Genotypic specificity of schizophrenic psychoses].

A total of 610 probands with a disease manifestation in childhood, middle and old age and their families were examined by the clinico-genealogical method. The results allowed conclusions that (1) there is an undoubted genetic relationship between schizophrenia of childhood, middle and old age; and that (2) among the closest relatives in families of the probands there is no significant (in comparison to the general population) accumulation of non-schizophrenic pathology. The latter indicates a high genotypic specificity of schizophrenia.

[Families of late delusional schizophrenia patients].

Families of 44 schizophrenic probands with an onset over 45 years of age, were studied. Among the secondary psychoses, typical schizophrenical psychoses, with an onset in young and middle age were prevalent, no affective psychoses being revealed. The risk for schizophrenia in the parents and sibs was lower than in the families of schizophrenic patients with an onset in young age. However, the risk of morbidity in the relatives of first degree was higher than the incidence of schizophrenia in the population. The general familial background corresponded to the familial background of schizophrenic patients described in the literature. The question of genetical bonds with late delusional schizophrenia and schizophrenia in general is discussed.

[A comparative clinico-genetic study of attack-like schizophrenia with late and early manifestation with regard to age].

The author studied the genetical traits in 2 groups of probands with attack-like schizophrenia with corresponding sex and age. The 1st group (62 probands) consisted of cases where the average age of the manifest psychoses was 59.5. The second group consisted of cases with an average of the manifest psychoses of 30.9. It appeared that the morbidity risk for schizophrenia for all the relatives of the first degree of relationship in the families of patients with late attack-like schizophrenia is significantly lower than the morbidity risk in familiies with an onset in young age. At the same time the frequency of schizophrenia among the relatives of patients with late attack-like schizophrenia significantly exceeds the frequency of schizophrenia in the general population. An accumulation of psychoses of a different nozology was not observed. The frequency of schizophrenia among the parents and sibs in a late manifestation of the disease in the probands is lower than in early schizophrenia. These differences were not seen in the children. Among the relatives of patients with late and early attack-like schizophrenia there is a large amount of schizoid personality anomalies.

[Results of an epidemiologic study of mental patients over 60 years of age in one of the districts of Moscow].

The convened investigation was related to a clinico-epidemiological study of mental disorders in individuals older than 60 who lived in the Kiev district of Moscow. The study was made of the entire population by a nonselective method with a fulfillment of a specially elaborated epidemiological chart. On the basis of an analysis of such charts and a personal interview of 1024 elderly patients and 215 elderly individuals not registered in the neuropsychiatric dispensary it was possible to receive some data concerning the prevalence rates, diagnostical, sex and age content of mental diseases in patients over 60, living in the given district.
