[Biological activity and structure of antitumor compounds from Plantago media L].

Tyrosine kinase inhibition and tumor growth inhibition activity of verbascoside and homoplantaginin are described. Both molecules proved to be equally significant inhibitors of isolated EGF-R tyrosine kinases, nevertheless their in vitro antiproliferative activity was variable in cellular assays. Their different inhibitory efficacies could be interpreted on the basis of conformational analysis and lipophilicity evaluation.

[Cariologic and periodontal screening of children aged 7, 12 and 14 years in the city of Debrecen. II. Periodontal status and need for treatment].

The aim of present survey was to gain epidemiological data on periodontal condition of 7, 12 and 14 yrs old (40 children in 7, 92 children in 12 and 84 children in 14 yrs old groups) schoolchildren as assessed by the CPITN. The peridontal health of children proved to be very poor. Only 33.3% of 7 yrs old, 20.9% of 12 yrs and 13.1% of 14 yrs old children showed healthy gingiva. Bleeding on probing was observed in 66.7% of 7 yrs old group, in 19.8% of 12 and in 16.7% of 14 yrs old groups. The calculus prevalence was 0.0% of 7 yrs old children, 56.0% in 12 and 44.7% in 14 yrs old groups. Oral hygiene instruction was needed by 66.7% of 7, 79.1% of 12 and 86.9% of 14 yrs old children. Scaling was necessary in 11.1% of 7, 59.3% of 12 and 70.2% of 14 yrs old groups. Complex treatment was needed in none of the groups examined.

Changes in cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP levels during in vitro chondrogenesis.

cAMP and cGMP levels were measured in micro high-density cultures of chick limb bud mesenchyme cells stages 22-24 after 1, 2, 4 and 6 days of culturing. In these cultures, a consistent cartilage differentiation proceeds parallel to the progressive accumulation of cells in the G0 phase. The cAMP level increased by 45% by the time of the onset of cartilage phenotype expression, and significantly decreased thereafter. The cGMP level gradually diminished by a total of 39% during the period examined. It is suggested that the decrease in cell proliferation may be the consequence of the reduction of the cGMP level, and that a short-term marked elevation of cAMP level induces cartilage differentiation in the limb mesenchymal cells which are able to select only from a limited number of differentiation programmes.

[Changes in the structure of the wall of the human thoracic duct in relation to atherosclerosis and age].

Changes in the proportion of muscular- and connective tissue in the media of the thoracic duct were observed at atherosclerotic persons. It was established that the quotient of the muscular and connective tissue with the development of the atherosclerotic process increases. The latter causes thichkening of the connective tissue layer in the wall of the thoracic duct. These structural changes have only indirect connection with age, since severe atherosclerosis in aged persons occure more often.

[Misleading self-inflicted gunshot wound].

One deceiving case of suicide with firearm is reported. In the heart area three entrance-wound were seen. At first sight these were the injuries to account for the death. At the autopsy in the mouth another entrancewound was, found. The death occurred due to gunshot into the mouth.
