The three chief problems arising when an expert opinion is to be given are dealt with in brief, and the forensic significance of the depressive syndrome is described, without entering into the question of giving an opinion as to responsibility.
Jakob Wassermann's story Die Gefangenen auf der Plassenburg (The prisoners of Plasenburg) is taken as a starting point for a discussion of experiences, coping with events, and estrangement, and their effect regarding depressive emotional deterioration and its description. The possibilities of succinct expression in the description of boredom, depressive emotional deterioration, melancholy, and dejection are indicated, with special reference to interactional psychopathology.

The paper demonstrates that the nosological classification of psychoses associated with pregnancy, menstruation, etc., under conditions of approximately equivalent description of syndromes, has been treated quite variously, according to the prevalent attitude, in the last hundred years. The concept of puerperal psychosis has been used to denote a psychopathological syndrome connected with pregnancy, birth, and confinement. After a relapse, nosological classification is possible.

Five human papillomavirus (HPV) DNAs from lesions of an epidermodysplasia verruciformis patient were cloned in lambda L 47: DNA of HPV 5, which predominated in the carcinoma; DNA of a variant type of HPV 8, which was not detected in the carcinoma DNA by Southern blot hybridization but only by cloning; and DNAs of three papillomaviruses that were isolated from warts. Southern blot and liquid phase DNA-DNA hybridization under stringent conditions showed that the three viruses from warts were new types, which we named HPVs 19, 20, and 25. These viruses cross-hybridized between 3 and 29% among themselves and with HPVs 5 and 8. After physical mapping with several restriction enzymes, the colinear genomes were aligned with HPV 8 DNA to define early and late regions. HPVs 8, 19, and 25 shared homology in different parts of their genomes.
Psychopathology and prognosis of puerperal psychoses are discussed on the basis of 45 cases. Syndrome description is of special significance to therapy. Prognosis, on the whole, cannot be called favourable problems relevant to individual cases (suicidalism, delinquency) are indicated.
