A case of multiple tuberculomas of the spleen, detected as hypoechoic masses on ultrasound and subsequently proved at operation and histopathology, is presented. This was the only manifestation of the disease.
The sonographic appearances of 12 intrathoracic masses in children are presented. Seven out of 12 masses were malignant and presented with opaque hemithorax on chest X-ray. Different types of masses encountered were: Lymphoma, Neuroblastoma, Ewing's sarcoma, metastatic Ewing's sarcoma, Teratocarcinoma, Pseudotumor of the lung, Neuroenteric duplication cyst, Bronchogenic cyst and tubercular mediastinal lymph nodes.
Budd Chiari Syndrome is the eponymic designation of symptomatic post sinusoidal venous obstruction, whether or not this is associated with hepatic vein occlusion or vena caval obstruction. Dutta and associates (1) classified the syndrome into two distinct types. Type I involves obstruction to the hepatic veins while Type II pertains to an obstruction in the inferior vena cava above the entry of hepatic veins. We report a case of thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm presenting as Type II Budd Chiari Syndrome.

This study describes the role of ultrasound in the evaluation of abdominal abscesses in children. A total of 41 abscesses were encountered in 36 patients (21 boys and 15 girls). The youngest patient was 1-month-old. Abscesses were localised at various sites (hepatic, renal, perirenal, paracolic, appendicular, pelvic, psoas, subphrenic, parietal), and of varied sonographic patterns (complex, anechoic, hypoechoic and containing uniform low level echoes). Most of them had irregular walls.

The technique of peroral pneumocolon (POPC) has been found to be simple and easy to obtain excellent double contrast visualization of the distal ileum and proximal colon. Thirty-four patients were subjected to the POPC examination of which 29 had undergone prior barium meal follow through studies. In 86.2% of these cases POPC was found to be superior as compared to conventional studies. In 5 patients who could not retain Ba-enema, POPC was performed as first line of investigation with 100% efficacy.

A case of Ewing's tumour of rib presenting as chest mass is reported. The role of computed tomography and chest ultrasound in evaluating such patients is discussed along with a brief review of literature.
A rare case of sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) associated with hydrops diagnosed on prenatal ultrasound and subsequently confirmed on parturition is presented.
A rare case of chorioangioma of the placenta with unusual sonographic pattern diagnosed antenatally is presented. Another unusual feature of the case is the associated raised maternal serum alphafetoprotein level.
The sonographic appearance of 25 proved cases of hepatic hydatid disease was characterized and correlated with surgical and pathologic findings. Sonography has a very high accuracy in detecting the type, size, number and location of hepatic hydatid cysts. It also indicates whether they are live (Type I, IR, II) or dead (Type III). The presence of hydatid cysts in the rest of peritoneal cavity and their complications can also be detected. It is of immense help in the selection of cases in which urgent surgery is needed e.g. contained (Type IR), communicating and direct rupture of hydatid cysts. When hydatid cysts are infected, they lose their characteristic sonographic appearance and become hyperechoic. This article details the findings and emphasize the criteria for recognizing hepatic hydatid disease.
Four cases of typhoid fever with unusual hepatic manifestations are described. Two cases had hepatitis and two had hepatic abscess. These complications are documented for the first time in the pediatric age group. Awareness of these rare manifestations may be helpful in avoiding unnecessary morbidity and mortality.
