Measuring temporal stability in regression models of population estimation.

This paper introduces an empirical indicator designed to measure the temporal stability of regression models used to produce subnational population estimates. Analusis of 67 counties in Florida centers on 1970 total population estimates generated from ratio-correlation and difference-correlation models. Comparisons are made between eight different regression specifications and employ a quantitative measure of relative estimate accuracy. The major findings of this study are that (a) variable measurement and type are important determinants of estimate accuracy, and (b) although temporal stability of the coefficients impacts estimation errors, the influence is not as pervasive as is suggested in the literature.

A case of monthly unipolar psychotic depression with suicide attempt by self-burning: selective response to bupropion treatment.

A second case of monthly, unipolar, psychotic depression is presented, involving a 26-year-old woman whose illness had a postpartum onset, recurred premenstrually for 33 consecutive months, and involved a suicide attempt by self-burning. Whereas various antidepressant, antipsychotic, and hormonal treatments were ineffective, bupropion (together with low-dose trifluoperazine) induced an immediate and complete remission that was maintained at a 16-month evaluation.

Pseudolesion with nonionic contrast myelography.

Water soluble contrast myelography has been associated with a variety of complications. The inadvertant injection of air into the thecal sac may produce an apparent extramedullary, intradural defect on myelography. Post myelography CT examination should be used to confirm the presence of such a pseudolesion.
