[Surgical therapy of obstructive tumors of the large intestine].

Current option in managing obstructive colorectal carcinoma is a one stage procedure. Between 1987 and 1991, 47 cases of obstructive colorectal cancer were managed. A statistical analysis showed no significant difference in mortality, morbidity and hospital stay when comparing elective and emergency one staged resection and reconstruction.

[Torsion of a pelvic testicle in an adult. A clinical case].

A case of an adult with torsion and infarction of a pelvic testis, not previously diagnosed, although the patient was monorchid, is reported. The preoperative diagnosis was "acute abdomen" with pelvic mass. A brief discussion and a review of the recent literature are presented.

Cryptorchidism↗

[Renal oncocytoma: 2 clinical cases].

Renal oncocytoma is an uncommon benign neoplasm of tubular epithelial origin. It usually occurs as single mass and clinically may be confused with renal cell carcinoma. Angiographic, CT and ultrasound studies may suggest the diagnosis but they are not pathognomonic. The clinical, diagnostic and anatomopathological features of two cases are presented and discussed.

rDNA (18S-28S and 5S) colocalization and linkage between ribosomal genes and (TTAGGG)(n) telomeric sequence in the earthworm, Octodrilus complanatus (Annelida: Oligochaeta: Lumbricidae), revealed by single- and double-color FISH.

Spermatogonial and metaphase I chromosomes of the lumbricid earthworm Octodrilus complanatus (Annelida: Oligochaeta) were examined using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with three repetitive DNA probes-5S rDNA, 18S-26S rDNA, and (TTAGGG)(n). Single-color FISH consistently mapped one chromosome pair per spread using either 5S rDNA or 18S-26S rDNA as probes. Simultaneous (18S-26S)-5S and (18S-26S)-(TTAGGG)(n) FISH demonstrated that repeated units of the two ribosomal families were overlapped and closely associated with telomeric sequences.
