Efficacy of the anesthetic protection in one-stage anterior and posterior spinal fusion in surgery of scoliosis.

Contemporary one-stage surgery of scoliosis including consecutive anterior and posterior spinal fusion is a highly traumatic procedure that requires effective anesthetic protection of the patient during operation and in the postoperative period. It has been established that anesthetic protection with alpha-1-adrenoblockers and alpha-2-adrenoantagonists of clofelin allows minimization of the postaggressive catabolic reactions of the organism, preventing severe impairment of homeostasis, reducing considerably the rate of intra- and postoperative complications and thus ensuring the favorable outcome of the operation. The proposed method of anesthetic protection by using propofol could be a method of choice when intraoperative awakening of the patient is needed to control for possible neurological deficit.

[Hemodynamic features in bronchial asthma concurrent with hypertensive disease].

AIM: To study the cardiorespiratory system, central and intracardiac hemodynamics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 274 patients with bronchial asthma (BA), including 117 patients with this condition concurrent with hypertensive disease (HD) during traditional medical treatment were examined. RESULTS: The impact of concomitant HD on the pattern of performance of the cardiovascular system and the development of the cardiac structure in these patients was evaluated. CONCLUSION: In patient with BA concurrent with HD, external respiratory dysfunction diastolic dysfunction of both ventricle deteriorate, specific peripheral resistance enhances.

[Mechanism of the development of thioridazine retinopathy].

Comparative electron microscopic, electrophysiological and biochemical studies of thioridazine influence on lipid peroxidation in vivo (rats, rabbits) and in vitro (model systems) were performed. It was shown that thioridazine retinopathy was not followed by an increase in lipid peroxidation and antioxidant (dibunol) failed to protect the retina against the destructive action of thioridazine. Moreover, thioridazine inhibited lipid peroxidation in model system.

[Mechanisms of retinal damage in chloroquine retinopathy].

The paper presents the results of comparative electron microscopic, electrophysiological and biochemical studies of chloroquine effect on lipid peroxidation (LPO) both in vitro and in vivo (rabbits and rats). It has been shown that the progress of chloroquine retinopathy was not accompanied by the increment of the initial LPO level, and the use of ionol antioxidant did not protect the retina from the adverse effect of chloroquine. Besides, chloroquine was shown to suppress LPO in vitro. The results obtained substantiate the idea that LPO is not the primary mechanism in chloroquine retinopathy.

Ultrastructural alterations in rat and cat retina and pigment epithelium induced by chloroquine.

Chloroquine retinopathy in rats and cats was studied (in long-term experiments on rats the drug was injected into the stomach). We observed the slow development of the pathological process, accompanied by the appearance of membrane inclusions in GC, structural alterations in the RPE, and after 10 months complete destruction of the outer segments of the photoreceptors. In experiments on cats, after a single intravitreous chloroquine injection destruction of the photoreceptors, similar to that observed in rats, was found 2 weeks after the injection. In the region of tapetum nigrum containing melanin photoreceptors were safe. These data suggest the protective effect of melanin on the process of chloroquine retinopathy.

[Acute toxic action of combinations of antibiotics with isoniazid].

Acute toxicity of isoniazid combinations with rifampicin or various streptomycin salts was studied on 1237 noninbred mice. The toxic effect of the combinations of the drugs in different weight ratios was estimated with the method of graphic analysis of Leve and Muischnek. The experiments showed that rifampicin and streptomycin had no effect on isoniazid ability to induce spasms. The combination of isoniazid with rifampicin had an additive action with an insignificant decrease in the toxic effect. 1 : 2 was the most optimal ratio of the drugs. When the mixture of isoniazid and streptomycin was used in the same syringe, the toxicity increased. However, injection of these drugs alone with an interval of 1-2 minutes had a more favourable additive effect when used in an optimal ratio of 1 : 1.6.
