[Selected immunologic tests in industrial workers chronically exposed to harmful occupational factors].

160 workers, aged 19-60 (average 41.5 years), engaged in the production of prefabricated concrete elements and chronically exposed to ambient humidity and temperature fluctuations underwent preventive clinical immunological examinations. Eighty-seven subjects passed, within recent six months, upper respiratory tract infection. Forty-seven per cent of those who passed the respiratory tract infection exhibited enhanced immunological reaction of cellular type, ability of lymphocytes blastic transformation, the degree of lymphocytes immunoadherence inhibition in the presence of antigens, and lymphocytes B value. The changes in the circulatory system may be conditioned by chronic myocarditis.

Some T-cell functions in patients with viral myocarditis. The effect of levamisole.

Some T-cell functions in vitro have been studied in 16 healthy persons, 8 patients with past myocarditis, without any circulatory after-effects and in 12 patients with chronic viral myocarditis. Decrease of T-suppressor cell activity and enhanced blastic transformation of lymphocytes induced with allogeneic heart antigens have been observed in patients suffering from myocarditis. In six patients with active inflammatory process of the heart muscle, application of levamisole brought about not only clinical and electrocardiographic improvement but also an increase of suppressor cells activity and diminished blastic transformation induced with the allogeneic heart antigens and a rise of the T-lymphocytes percentage.

[Immunosuppressive activity of the serum in burns].

The authors investigated the immunosuppressive activity of the serum in the course of the experimental burn disease in rabbits and even in the course of the burn disease in the thermically injured man. The increase of the concentration of isolated serum protein fraction caused a decrease of the spontaneously rose forming lymphocytes.

[Effect of levamisol on the survival time of skin transplants in burns].

The influence of levamisol (1, 2, 3, 5, 6-tetro hydro-6-phenylimidasole 2,1-6 thiasol) on the survival time of allogenic skin grafts was examined in healthy rabbits and in rabbits with a burn disease. The survival time of the transplants was prolonged significantly in healthy rabbits and diminished in rabbits with burn disease.

[Suppressor cell activity in multiple sclerosis and other nervous system diseases. Preliminary report].

3H-Thymidine incorporation was assessed in concanavalin A-stimulated cultures of peripheral blood lymphocytes of healthy subjects and multiple sclerosis patients. At the same time the counts of T and B lymphocytes were determined in peripheral blood and the activity of suppressor cells was determined in vitro by the method of Shou et all. in these patients and in other neurological diseases. The studied immunological parameters showed some variability in patients with multiple sclerosis: at the time of exacerbations the activity of suppressor cells decreased and the mitogenic response to Con A was impaired. In remissions and in slowly progressive cases of multiple sclerosis the activity of suppressor cells was increased, particularly in elderly patients. The reported investigations demonstrated that disturbances in the functions of suppressor cells occur also in other neurological diseases. The role of the observed disturbances in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis is discussed.

Suppressor cells function in healthy persons.

The investigations were performed on lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood of 26 healthy persons aged from 20 to 68 years. The following parameters were evaluated: T suppressor cell activity in two-step culture, concanavalin A (Con A) responsiveness in three-day culture and number of T lymphocytes carrying receptor for Fc portion of immunoglobulin G (TG cells). A slight increase in T suppressor activity and diminished responsiveness to Con A have been shown to be age-dependent. A correlation has been found between suppressor cells activity in vitro and the percentage of TG cells (r = 0.62, p less than 0.05). The level of suppressor activity of lymphocytes was independent of their Con A responsiveness.
