Some laboratory aspects of hepatic tolerability of diftalone.

The hepatic tolerability of phthalazine-(2,2-b)-phthalazin-5,12-(7H,14H)-dione (diftalone--administered at the dosage of 750 mg/day p.o. for a mean period of 23 days--has been studied in 40 patients by means of: total plasma protein, albumin, fibrinogen, serum glutamin-oxalacetic transaminase, serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, alkaline phosphatase, glycemic curve after glucagon and plasmatic elimination of bromosulphalein. A statistically but not clinically significant increase of the SGPT level is the only change observed.

[Bis-(hydroxy-2-ethylthyo)-1,10-decano in hyperlipaemic therapy (author's transl)].

The authors studied the effectiveness and biological tolerability of Tiadenol [Bis-(hydroxy-2-ethylthyo)-1,10-decano] against clofibrate, in a group of 38 hyperlipaemic (volunteers) subjects, with or without atherosclerotic disease. The results showed that the new hypolipidaemic drug has a great effect on cholesterolemia and trigliceridaemia, as does clofibrate. The statistic examination confirmed the results. This research didn't show any side-effects of the drug, which has a very good biological tolerability.

Possible effect of caerulein on calcitonin secretion in man.

Caerulein, infused in normal subjects, significantly reduces serum Calcium levels; in addition, when infused 60 or 90 min after radioactive calcium, it increases the specific plasma radioactivity, in a manner similar to calcitonin. These results suggest that in man caerulein stimulates calcitonin release.

[On the hypouricemic action of an alkaline mineral water in the aged].

The importance of loading tests, particularly venous loading with fructose, in the determination of changes in purine metabolism is stressed. Such changes may well be present even if basic uricaemia is within the limits of normal. Fructose loading was used to determine the hypouricaemising and uricosuric effects of a mediomineral water in aged subjects following daily administration. A hypouricaemising effect was noted and there was an improvement in loading curve patterns. This effect is considered to be primarily due to the uricosuric activity of the water itself. Sugar tolerance and the insulin response to loading, on the other hand, were not altered by the treatment.
