Distribution of anionic sites in gut tissue: an electron-microscopical study.

A new one-step incubation method using cationic gold colloid was applied to reveal anionic moieties in rat colonic mucosa. Gold particles were detected in all cellular nuclei, basement membranes, mast cell granules and collagen fibres, while the luminal surfaces of all vascular endothelial cells were devoid of gold label. Application of the method for detection of anionic domains under various conditions is discussed.

Animals

[Superovulation induction in buffalo cows (Bubalus bubalis) with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)].

A total of 19 buffalo cows were used to induce superovulation following a pattern that included the use of FSH at the rate of 40 mg in the course of four days, applied twice a day and of Oestrophan at 48 hours after the beginning of treatment. Fifteen animals manifested estrus and were twice inseminated. The superovulation response of the ovaries was 4.3 +/- 0.8 yellow bodies and 0.5 +/- 0.24 follicles greater than 8 mm. A nonsurgical method was employed to obtain 24 embryos of high quality and an unfertilized ovum from 8 buffalo cows.

Animals

[Superovulation and the production of embryos in the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in Bulgaria].

A total of thirty water buffalo cows aged 3 to 8 years were treated for superovulation over the July-October period. Nine of the animals were injected with FSH at the rate of 40 mg at 12-hour intervals in the course of 4 consecutive days, and the remaining 21 animals were injected with 3,000 IU gestyl in the middle of the luteal phase. Forty-eight hours after stimulation started both groups were treated with 500 micrograms cloprostenol. Five out of the 9 buffalo cows (55.5 per cent) of group I and 15 out of 12 buffalo cows (71.4 per cent) of group II manifested estrus at an average interval of 44.4 +/- 3.6 and 40.5 +/- 3.29 hours, respectively, following the application of cloprostenol. The superovulatory treatment of the animals of the two groups led to average values of 5.6 +/- 1.89 and 4.0 +/- 0.98 corpora lutea and 1.0 +/- 0.63 and 2.7 +/- 1.41 follicules larger than 8 mm; 2.6 +/- 1.60 and 2.1 +/- 0.94 embryos of high quality were obtained through the use of a nonsurgical method of flushing.

[Changes in the ruminal contents in suppurative surgical infection in cattle].

Rumen content (pH, number of infusoria, quantity of volatile fatty acids and ammonia) was studied in 151 cattle (50 healthy animals, 15 with experimental suppurative infection and 86 with spontaneous suppurative infection). In cases of cattle suppurative infection a statistically significant reduction was observed in the four rumen content indices: pH from 7.61 +/- 0.02 fell to 6.90 +/- 0.06; number of infusoria--from 295 820 +/- 2890 per cm3 fell to 75 867 +/- 1260 per cm3; volatile fatty acids from 919.7 +/- 10.08 mg% diminished to 489.48 +/- 18.91, and ammonia from 27.69 +/- 0.51 mg% was reduced to 12.23 +/- 0.73 mg%. In case of recovery a tendency toward normalizing rumen content was observed.

Ammonia

[Laboratory studies of the urine in suppurative surgical infection in cattle].

One hundred and eight cattle (20 controls, 14 with an experimentally induced and 74 with spontaneously occurred suppurative surgery infection) were studied in terms of their general condition and some of the urine indices--pH, specific weight, proteins, urobillinogen, acetone, sugar, blood, urea and sediment. It was established that when the general status deteriorated and death occurred the urine pH value rose (by 1--1.5), and the specific weight was 0.005--0.010 higher, while the level of urina urea dropped by 0.5--0.6 g%. In 89 per cent of the investigated animals there were 0.1 per percent proteins, and the sediment consisted of 20--30 erythrocytes, from sporadic to 10-12 leucocytes, and from single to 5--6 kidney epithelium cells per field. In 38.8 per cent of the cattle affected with suppurative processes there were tripelphosphates in the sediment. Urobillinogen was found in 63.6 per cent of the cases. Suppurative infections caused by Corynebacterium pyogenes are accompanied by greater changes in the sediment. In almost all of the recovered animals the urine indices came back to normal.

Animals

[Clinical and experimental studies of suppurative surgical infection in cattle].

Investigated were a total of 30 cattle 6 of which had experimental surgery infection and 24 showed spontaneously developing suppurative infection. The animals were studied in terms of general status, blood picture, quality of urine and synovia, and rumen content. The dynamis was followed up of the development of sepsis and purulent artritis. It was found that in case of suppurative surgical infections in cattle the general status was invariably affected, the severity of the process depending on its localization and developmental phase. Changes were observed also in the eye fundus and in the urinary and the digestive system. There were anemia and leukopenia which alternated with leukocytosis, and transient changes in the values of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and the blood electrolytes. The SGOT values almost constantly increased, and the hemoculture was not positive in all cases.

Animals

[Changes in the serum proteins in suppurative surgical infection in cattle].

Studied were the serum proteins of 3 cattle with a spontaneous suppurative surgery infection and 10 cattle with an experimental infection of the same character. It was found that in such cases there is a rise in the total protein, the alpha and gamma globulins, and a drop in the albumin and the beta-globulins. The experimental suppurative infection caused by Corynebacterium pyogenes produces changes of a higher degree in the protein spectrum than the experimental infection caused by Str. pyogenes. In cases in which the general status of the organism is more strongly involved in the infection process the changes in the protein fractions are more strongly expressed.

Alpha-Globulins

[Clinical studies of an experimental suppurative surgical infection in cattle caused by Cornynebacterium pyogenes].

Studied were clinically and paraclinically six cattle manifesting an experimental suppurative surgery infection caused by Cornebacterium pyogenes, strain 1056. It was established that the infection assumes the course of septicaemia with metastases in the viscera, causing severe disturbances in the general condition and leading to death in most cases. Found were also anemia, leukopenia, that alternated with leukocytosis presenting nuclear shift to left, changes in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate in terms of more rapid settling out of r. b. c. The urine presented protein and sediment consisting of 8 to 10 or numerous erythrocytes, 5 to 6 or 10 to 15 leukocytes, single to 8-10 kidney epithelium cells. The rumen content became alkaline, and the infusoria count dropped.

Studies on delayed hypersensitivity of patients with Hodgkin's disease during remission.

The studies of skin sensitivity, the reactivity to intradermally transferred lymphocytes and lymphocytic transformation in vitro showed that delayed hypersensitivity had been slightly impaired in patients with Hodgkin's disease during long time remission. The regression of the disease favoured the recovery of the lymphocytic functions and the delayed type immune reactions associated with them. These data suggest that the enhancement of the delayed hypersensitivity of the tumour defence respectively could promote the treatment or prevention of the disease.
