A study was carried out on the incidence of E. coli serogroups 01--025, under different clinical and epidemiologic conditions, with a view to evaluating their etiopathogenic significance and the efficiency of immunofluoresence as a rapid laboratory method of diagnosis. A total number of 1542 samples were collected from humans (1075 feces samples and 467 urine samples from cases of urinary infection), and 387 from animals. The samples were collected from cases of enteritis and from healthy children and adults: 285 samples from infantile enteritis cases; 200 samples from adults with enteritis; 31 samples from healthy children: and 559 samples from healthy adults. These E. coli serogroups were found in humans, in both pathologic and normal conditions. The proportion of isolations of E. coli serogroups 01--025 was greater in the feces samples from healthy subjects than in the samples from enternal or urinary infections (48.80% as against 23.21%), demonstrating the opportunist character of these germs. Positive results were obtained in 30.23% of the products of animal origin (monkeys, dogs, chickens), pointing to the wide spread of these serogroups in nature. Serogroups 04 and 025 were predominant in both the human and animal products. The rapid immunofluorescence diagnosis cannot be applied to these serogroups owing to the multiple and varied antigenic fractions. The laboratory diagnosis can only be established in pure cultures by identification of the groups, by biochemical and serolgic methods, by agglutination reactions on slides and in test tubes.
After testing 18 experimental variants against 40 reference strains belonging to different Enterovacteriaceae groups, the authors chose a multitest medium that permits concomitant testing of mobility, indol, lysinedecarboxylase and phenylalanine deaminase (MILP). In this medium, the reactions of 3734 strains belonging to the genera Escherichia, Shigella. Salmonella, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia. Proteus and Providencia were concordant with the reactions in individual test media, taking as reference, in a proportion of 99.7 and 100%. The authors, associating the MILP medium to TSI agar, propose a simple scheme consisting of eight test which permits, within only 24 hours, the correct identification of the genus and sometimes of the species of cultures or isolated colonies from selective media.
Deceased cases with cerebral infarction and hemorrhage constituted the subjects of the present study. They were divided into two groups: 127 cases in group 1 (1954-1959) and 427 cases in group 2 (1977-1982). The purpose of the study was to compare clinical data to evidence any statistical difference between groups. No statistically significant difference was noticed, except the increase of age mean in both diagnoses due to the overall increase of age mean of the population (2.5-10 yrs).
The main objective of the present study was to assess the efficiency of the melodic intonation therapy (MIT) in the rehabilitation of Romanian aphasics. Eighty predominantly Broca aphasics used the melodic intonation therapy when no other therapy methods were very efficient. The speech therapist intonated the respective word, then together with the patient and finally let him continue alone. The control group counted 80 aphasics and it applied other therapy methods. Each patient, regardless of the group, was tested twice, before and after therapy. Since most of the patients displayed severe language disorders, and other therapy methods failed in rehabilitating them, MIT was considered an efficient method in the early stages of Broca aphasia with bucco-lingual apraxia.

Fifty aphasics were studied in three separate groups: nonfluent Broca, fluent Wernicke and fluent anomics in order to form a therapeutic guide of their phonetic errors (omission substitution, addition, repeated phonemes, perseveration of phonemes belonging to the preceding word, reversed order, phonematic targetting and misplacing. Frequency of phonetic error was also assessed.
The research, performed on 80 Romanian-speaking aphasics showed that the frequency of various types of phonetic errors is quite different in various languages, as presented in aphasiologic references. In our study the main phonemic errors were in the order of their frequency as follows: omissions, substitutions and additions of phonemes. The other types of errors appeared rather infrequently, in decreasing order: targeting (tir à la cible phonématique), order reversing, misplacing, repeated phonemes, preservation of phonemes of previous words. It must be underlined that for English-speaking aphasics some authors observed that substitutions are the most frequent phonemic errors but some others considered that additions are more frequent than other types of phonemic errors.
A number of 1431 products were examined and 200 coagulase-negative micrococcaceae strains were isolated and identified. On the basis of morphological aspects, enzymatic reactions and behavioural testing to antibiotics 18 strains (9%) were listed as Micrococcus and 182 (91%) as Staphylococcus strains. Efficient among the tests used for differentiating between the two genera were : microscopic aspects, pigmentogenesis, resistance to ClNa, anaerobic glucose fermentation, glycerol fermentation in the presence of erythromycin, reduction of nitrates to nitrites, and testing to novobiocin. Other tests, due to their variability, could only be used conjointly, and, finally, a further category had no diagnostic value, such as oxidase and catalase tests or the rhamnose fermentation reaction. Both the Micrococcus and the Staphylococcus strains were isolated from pathological cases and from healthy carriers, and can therefore be listed in the group of potential pathogens.
