Multimode transport in Schottky-barrier carbon-nanotube field-effect transistors.

We present a detailed study on the impact of multimode transport in carbon nanotube field-effect transistors. Under certain field conditions electrical characteristics of tube devices are a result of the contributions of more than one one-dimensional subband. Through potassium doping of the nanotube the impact of the different bands is made visible. We discuss the importance of scattering for a stepwise change of current as a function of gate voltage and explain the implications of our observations for the performance of nanotube transistors.

Tunneling versus thermionic emission in one-dimensional semiconductors.

This Letter focuses on the role of contacts and the influence of Schottky barriers on the switching in nanotransistors. Specifically, we discuss (i) the mechanism for injection from a three-dimensional metal into a low-dimensional semiconductor, i.e., the competition between thermionic emission and thermally assisted tunneling, (ii) the factors that affect tunneling probability with emphasis on the importance of the effective mass for transistor applications, and (iii) a novel approach that enables determination of barrier presence and its actual height.

Common form of Lyme borreliosis carditis--complete heart block with syncope: report on 3 cases.

Third degree atrioventricular (AV) heart block with severe Adams-Stokes attacks in 3 patients with Lyme borreliosis is described. All patients had similar clinical manifestations: previously healthy, they experience syncope as an abrupt onset of the disease. Data on skin changes--erythema migrans--was subsequently obtained, although the patients did not recall being bitten by a tick. Diagnoses were based on clinical manifestations and on positive serologic test results to borrelia. Following AV block returned to sinus rhythm with normal AV conduction in all patients.

[Epidemiologic characteristics of human parvovirus B19. Report of an epidemic of erythema infectiosum in the area of Belgrade].

During the period 29.10.1987-10.5.1988 an outbreak of an illness with rash resembling Erythema Infectiosum occurred among school children in one part of Belgrade-Mladenovac. This is the first outbreak of Erythema Infectiosum reported in Yugoslavia and confirmed in University College of Middlesex School of Medicine, London, in November 1989. Of 720 school children exposed to infection of Human Parvovirus B 19 two hundred and eighty four (39.4%) have had clinical symptoms and 166 (58.4%) of them were in the age group 10-14. The sero-epidemiologic investigations excluded infection of Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus and Coxsackie viruses A 9 and B 5. To detect the infection Elisa IgM antibody, complement fixation, inhibition of hemagglutination and isolation have been used. Clinical symptoms of illness have been manifested as Rubella like exanthemas on extremities in 92.5%, extremities and body in 26.5% and the phenomenon "slapped Cheek" was discovered in 76.25% of all patients. Reappearance of rash has been observed in 25% of cases.

[Patulous eustachian tube].

Patulous eustachian tube is a pathological condition which exists more often than we make a diagnosis, and a patient is not often aware of his disease. This disease can be manifested with various symptoms: respiratory synchrony noises in the ear, because of the penetration of the air current through the eustachian tube and with the movement of the eardrum outwards and inside, with autophony, reduction of the hearing, the buzzing, dizziness and disturbance of the balance. Two patients are presented. The first one was sick for many years from various chronics exhausted diseases: Jackson's epilepsy, temporary vascular brain disturbances, tuberculosis of lung, stomach ulcer, heart diseases, the patient is from low class, on one side, and also suffers from some local diseases: a paralysis of soft palate and palatal arcs, a chronic catarrhal rhinitis and sinusitis, a deviation of nasal dividing wall and hindered breathing through the nose, on the other side. Many years the patient didn't know for patological condition in the ears and in the eustachian tubes. After improving the hygienic conditions, the physical condition and local therapy, the patient felt much better. The second patient, with considerable shorter evolution of the disease and mild symptomatology, showed the amplified symptoms of the disease of the Eustachian tube in the course of the acute otitis. It is attained a satisfying calming of the manifestative symptoms by remedy therapie. Man must thing about possibility of the appearance of this pathology condition in various disease or conditions, which can take to the fast lost of the weight and physical and moral exhaustion of the patient, i.e. an adult, first as the protection of the appearance of the disease (condition) and afterwards, eventually early and regulary treatment in order to prevent various possible, above mentioned complications.
