Two dimensional echoencephalography during the neurosurgical operations.

The authors describe the use of two dimensional ultrasonic image in time of neurosurgical operations. After craniotomy it is possible by means of B-scan to localise the brain pathology, to measure its depth from the brain surface as well as to plan the surgical strategy. The safety of this examination, its simplicity and immediate working results are stressed. This examination is recommended for all operations in intracranial space, because it enables the best possible orientation of the surgeon.

[Laminectomy in the dog for experimental purposes--a technical comment].

The reach of the lumbar vertebral column in the dog should be preferred in operations on the spinal marrow after own experiments. A better survey during the operation and a smaller risk of contusion of the spinal marrow by surgical instruments passed through there by reason a wider spinal canal a more voluminous spinal marrow. This method is more expensive, however more advantageous than a laminectomy in the reach of the thoracic spine because there exist some differences in the form of the bodies of the vertebra in humans and dogs.

Bilateral intracerebral hypertonic haemorrhage.

Bilateral hypertonic intracerebral haemorrhage is a rare pathological entity. CT-scan enables precise diagnostics, but in a case of bilateral intracerebral bleeding it is difficult to make decision whether to operate or not. In our group of 65 operated patients with intracerebral haemorrhage in the time interval 1985-1987 there was only one with bilateral bleeding. After the surgical removal of blood clots from one hemisphere the patient recovered.

Three observations of familial incidence of the central nervous system neoplasms.

The authors report of 3 observations of the familiar incidence of the central nervous system neoplasms. In the first case it was brain astrocytoma in 2 brothers, in the second case is was man with the meningioma of falx cerebri and his sister with capillary hemangioma of the cerebellum, in the third case it was a woman with astrocytoma of the left temporal lobe and her brother with medulloblastoma. The authors are of the opinion that it was only coincidence in all three cases.
