[Urinary calculi in an intestinal loop used for ureteral substitution. A case report].

The authors report the case of large urinary calculi formed inside the ileal conduit diversion in a patient who underwent radical surgery for an ovarian carcinoma involving the right ureter. Two ureter stents were left to ensure drainage and were endoscopically removed after six months. Renal function and ureteral canalization were normal. However, because of a knot in the proximal end of stents, a piece 5 cm-long-was left inside the diversion. After six months the patient developed recurrent renal colics: plain abdomen X-ray and urography showed a large urinary stone around the stents fragment and several smaller stones nearby. They all were removed surgically. The pathogenesis of such complications was considered: even though the slow flux of urine in the diversion, the abnormal mucus production from the ileal mucosa and the excessive and chronic bicarbonate loss played an important role in the developing of urinary calculi, the authors believe that in this case the main responsible for the stone formation was the foreign body in the urinary diversion.

Differential activation of T cell clones stimulated by macrophages exposed to antigen complexed with monoclonal antibodies. A possible influence of paratope specificity on the mode of antigen processing.

We have used the enhanced uptake by FcR-bearing cells observed when Ag is administered as an immune complex to investigate the possible impact of specific antibodies on processing and presentation of antigen by accessory cells. The Ag Escherichia coli beta-galactosidase alone or bound to different mAb was incubated with peritoneal macrophages. These were subsequently exposed to a battery of Ag-specific T hybridoma clones. The resulting production of IL-2 was taken as a measure of effective presentation. The results of 43 mAb-T clone combinations showed a potentiation of presentation of Ag at substimulatory concentration in the majority of the cases, indicating that each mAb is conducive to FcR-mediated uptake by macrophages, and that each T clone can be stimulated by properly presented Ag. In contrast, nine combinations yielded a lower response, two of them falling to baseline values. We attribute these results, which corroborate our previous evidence of directional help in the beta-galactosidase system, to a modulation in enzymatic processing of Ag and its subsequent presentation imposed by the paratope of the mAb binding to the relevant epitope.

Antibodies, Monoclonal↗

[Platelet aggregation and antihypertensive alpha-adrenergic agonists].

In their experimental researches the Authors showed that the well-known antihypertensive alpha-adrenergic stimulant drugs (clonidine, flutonidine and guanabenz) were able to antagonize at very high concentrations the platelet aggregation induced by ADP and by thrombin on rabbit PRP.

Adenosine Diphosphate↗

[Platelet aggregation and piribedil].

The Authors, thanks to experimental works, have established that piribedil at high concentrations inhibits ADP and thrombin aggregation effect on the rabbit PRP.
