A holder for dental implant screwdrives.

This article describes an easy procedure for making a holder for the small, short screwdrivers used to tighten and loosen implant superstructures. It can aid significantly during manipulation of the intraoral attachments.

Linear distortion and compatibility of an antimicrobial irreversible hydrocolloid impression material and improved dental stones.

Blueprint Asept Type I irreversible hydrocolloid impression material is claimed by the manufacturers to contain an internal disinfecting agent that is effective within 10 minutes from contact with pathogens. This study examined the accuracy of the material compared with a conventional impression material and its compatibility with two type III and one type IV dental stones. This study did not evaluate the effectiveness of the disinfecting agent.

The segmented framework removable partial denture.

The segmented framework removable partial denture is made of two cast metal individual segments joined with a resin major connector. The small individual framework segments can be made to fit well and the design permits ready correction of the tissue surface of the major connector through relining or an altered cast procedure. The dentist is offered a valuable alternative treatment approach in selected patients.

Communication deviances: a comparison between parents of learning-disabled and normally achieving students.

This study explored the relationship between parents' communication deviances and children's placement in a learning disability class. Participants were the parents of 30 learning-disabled students and 30 average students attending junior high school. Samples of communication were taken from parents' participation in an experimental task. Using a "blind" sorting procedure, raters were able to identify 87% of the learning-disabled students' parents by their high communication deviance scores and 77% of the average students' parents by their low communication deviance scores on the experimental communication task (p less than or equal to .0001). Implications for future research on the etiology and remediation of learning disabilities are discussed.

Defining borderline patients: an overview.

This review of the descriptive literature on borderline patients indicates that accounts of such patients vary depending upon who is describing them, in what context, how the samples are selected, and what data are collected. The authors identify six features that provide a rational means for diagnosing borderline patients during an initial interview: the presence of intense affect, usually depressive or hostile; a history of impulsive behavior; a certain social adaptiveness; brief psychotic experiences; loose thinking in unstructured situations; and relationships that vacillate between transient superficiality and intense dependency. Reliable identification of these patients will permit better treatment planning and clinical research.
