The authors present a study based on 4 cases of fistulous communication between the terminal digestive tube and the genitourinary tract, which appeared after surgery and radiation therapy for carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The diagnosis criteria (symptoms, clinical and imagistic findings), the objectives of the surgical treatment (external digestive derivation, treatment of the fistula and reconstruction of the digestive tube), the steps of the operation and the early and late postoperative evolution are pointed out. The conclusions are shown at the end.
The authors are presenting the case of a 53 year-old patient, suffering from type II diabetes mellitus and ankylosing spondylitis, admitted in our clinic in July 1997 for gastrojejunocolic fistula, 5 years after a transmesocolic gastrojejunostomy for obstructive chronic duodenal ulcer. The severe metabolic disorders and the radiologic aspects which led to the diagnosis, as well as the morphopathologic lesions found and the ways to approach the fistula, the stenotic duodenal ulcer and the reconstruction of the digestive continuity in a single surgical procedure are further discussed. The conclusions are shown at the end.
A study was worked out on the etiopathogenic relations and a more exact evaluation of the incidence of some agents: viruses, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas and rickettsiae, in the respiratory diseases of 0- to 12-month-old children. Serological analysis and immunofluorescence examination of pharyngeal cells were done. Results showed that parainfluenzae and respiratory syncytial viruses, chlamydiae, rickettsiae and mycoplasmas had an important part in the outbreak and maintaining of severe respiratory diseases in the 0- to 12-month-old children population.
A group of 55 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, aged from 8 to 40 years, was followed and compared to a group of controls, in view of detecting a possible relation between the presence of inframicrobial agents and diabetes pathogenesis. The investigations revealed, in patients, significantly higher positivity rate of antibodies against mumps (27% versus 16.3% in controls), parainfluenza type 1 (45.4% versus 29.1%) and Epstein-Barr (54.5% versus 10.9%) viruses, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae (43.6 versus 18.2%).
This work presents the results of a study on some viral, chlamydial, rickettsial and mycoplasmal agents incidence and their role on several gynecological ailments: vulvovaginitis, cervicitis, cervicovaginitis. The presence of some viral, chlamydial, rickettsial and mycoplasmal antigens in the vaginal secretion was investigated by immunofluorescence technique, isolation on selective media for Mycoplasma, and MGG staining in a group of 60 women with gynecopathies (group A) and in a control group (also 60 clinically healthy women) (group B). This study pointed out to higher incidence of chlamydial and mycoplasma antigens as well as of parainfluenza virus types I and III, adenovirus and herpes virus type II in group A. The serological screening revealed significant differences between the specific antibodies to antigens found in vaginal secretions to prove the presence of an immunological response on the same category of subjects.
Investigations were conducted on groups of subjects hospitalized in surgery services with a clinical diagnosis of acute or chronic appendicitis, to detect the presence of inframicrobial antibodies and antigens, as well as that of the C reactive protein in these patients as compared with a control group. The results of serological tests and of the examination of pieces of appendix are also presented. The obtained data are used as arguments for the theory of an inframicrobial infection part in some acute and chronic forms of appendicitis.
The study covered 138 HBsAg-positive children having experienced viral hepatitis type B (VHB); 105 of the subjects could be followed up from the clinical, paraclinical and immunological points of view over an interval of about 30 months, the results being considered in terms of the presence or absence of HBeAg and/or anti-HBe. The percentage of chronicity was higher in HBeAg-positive children (16.2% versus 6.3% in HBe Ag negative subjects); like wise, contamination by familial contact was more frequent in the HBeAg-positive cases (28.6% versus 16% in HBeAg-negative children). The values of cytolysis tests (single determinations or kinetic study) were higher in the HBsAg positive children.

A mathematical methodology is suggested which allows the a priori calculation of the risk of premature delivery, by a formula relying on the scores attributed to different specific risk factors (maternal virus infections included). The scores are estimated either directly, or starting from the scores of nonspecific factors. The statistical significance of the different scores, correlations and formulas is analyzed.
The presence of HBeAg and anti-HBe was investigated in 1,088 serum samples from 436 patients with HBsAg-positive acute viral hepatitis. The prevalence of HBeAg in the initial serum samples (collected upon hospital admission) was of 37.47%. In view of the results obtained with serial serum samples collected at 1-week-intervals the patients could be grouped into 4 categories: 1) seroconversion; 2) persistence of HBeAg; 3) presence of anti-HBe and 4) other serological sequences, irregular as compared with the former ones. Some serological characteristics point to a similar pathogenic behaviour in the first 3 categories, distinct from that of the patients belonging to the 4th category; the difference is ascribed to deficiencies in the immune response to hepatitis B virus antigens.

Significant differences concerning the in vitro reaction spectrum were found between two groups of 30 anti-HBe samples, one from apparently healthy HBsAg carriers, the other from HBsAg-positive acute viral hepatitis (AVH) patients : the mean number of positive reactions per anti-HBe sample was of 7.00 +/- 2.25 in the former and of 3.60 +/- 1.42 in the latter group. The broader reaction spectrum of anti-HBe from apparently healthy subjects (overall positivity percentage--54%, as against 26% in AVH patients) suggests some explanations regarding the different evolution modalities of hepatitis B virus infection in terms of the organism's capacity to develop a specific response.
Serum samples collected at 10-day intervals from 146 patients with acute viral hepatitis were tested for the presence of HBsAg, HBeAg and anti-HBe. During an observation period of 4 months HBe system seroconversion occurred in 70.5% of the the patients; a persistence of HBeAG was recorded in the remaining cases. Lower values of HBsAg prevalence and a shorter persistence of this antigen were recorded in the patients with HBe system seroconversion as compared with those showing HBeAg persistence, and in female as against male patients.
