[Evaluation of the Faustlos-Curriculum for Kindergartens].

In this control group study the Faustlos-Kindergarten version was evaluated. This violence prevention program is based on strengthening social-emotional competences in children. The results of the pre-post-study in 7 intervention and 7 control kindergartens (N=124 children aged 4; 5-6 years) show significant improvements in the childrens' social-emotional competences and significant reduction of aggressive behavior in the Faustlos groups in contrast to the controls.

[Faustlos -- promotion of social-emotional competences in elementary schools and kindergartens].

Aggressive and violent behavior of children often is caused by a lack of social and emotional competences, which blocks constructive problem- and conflict-management. Therefore lots of different US-American prevention approaches for the promotion of crucial social competences have been developed. Faustlos is the first German violence prevention curriculum, which promotes the social and emotional competences of first grade pupils and kindergarten aged children. The curriculum builds on the promotion of empathy, impulse control and anger management. Evaluation studies on the effectiveness of Faustlos prove its positive effects on aggressive behavior and on the promotion of social-emotional competence. Further, the feedback of people working with Faustlos concerning the acceptance and practicability of the program is positive too. Besides the development of additive materials (e. g. Faustlos for parents) evaluation studies on the long-term effects of the program are needed.

[New diagnostic alternatives for dysfunctional relationships: the relationship axis of the OPD-2].

As a part of the new version of Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnosis (OPD-2), the relationship axis is introduced which was developed on the basis of research and clinical work with the OPD-1. It provides a procedure indicating dysfunctional relationship patterns. The new version is characterized by the following qualities: The relationship axis is based more consequently on the circumplex model of interpersonal behaviour. Therefore, it is suitable for a broader range of evaluation methods linked to this model. It also contains instructions on how to draw a summary of relationship dynamics. Thus the results of the diagnostic assessment can be summarized for clinical and practical purposes and used directly for therapeutic work. In addition, a simplified version of the rating procedure enables identification of the patient's significant problematic relationship themes and his or her personal resources.

[Mental representation, psychic structure, and behaviour problems in preschool children].

Mental health problems in terms of deviant behaviour and emotional problems are assumed in context with mental representations and indicators of internal psychic structure. In distinction to adults there is little empirical research concerning this matter. On the basis of Childrens' Play Narratives (MacArthur Story Stem Battery) we collected data about content-themes, structural indicators and process criteria of 73 preschool children and implicated these information with behaviour ratings of parents and kindergarden teachers. Many correlations were found particularly with structural indicators, process criteria and behaviour ratings. The results are discussed both with respect to content and methodical aspects.

[Birth as a stressful experience of parents with newborns and infants showing regulatory disorders].

Parents with 0-3 years-old children seen in our outpatient clinic often report a difficult start in parenthood, with the experience of child birth overshadowed by medical complications and/or psychological stress. Besides the syndrome of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the individual perinatal stress experience of mother/father--as a factor hardly considerated up to now--may contribute to the development of postpartal psychological disturbances in the mother and to dysfunctional mother/parent-child interactions. The current state of empirical research into this area of investigation is unsatisfactory. This article approaches this subject on the basis of research in early infant development and explores the relationship between stressful or traumatic perinatal experiences of the parents and the consequences on affect regulation of the child and relational and attachment processes.

[The connection between affective evaluation of recollected relationship experiences and the severity of the psychic impairment].

This study, carried out at three different university centers contributes to validating the valence dimension of the CCRT-method. Working on the state of the CCRT-research on affective evaluation of relationship narratives, the connection between the valence dimension of the responses from others (RO), responses of the self (RS) and the severity of the psychic disorder has been analysed with the help of two different samples (n = 266 resp. n = 32) taken from female patients. Both, therapists as well as patients themselves, evaluated the severity of the impairment similarly. The more the patients were impaired, the more negatively they describes both their own reactions and those of their interaction partners as shown in the relationship episodes.
