We demonstrate that a matter-wave bright soliton can be stabilized in 2D free space by causing the strength of interactions to oscillate rapidly between repulsive and attractive by using, e.g., Feshbach resonance.
An attractive Bose-Einstein condensate with a vortex splits into two pieces via the quadrupole dynamical instability, which arises at a weaker strength of interaction than the monopole and the dipole instabilities. The split pieces subsequently unite to restore the original vortex or collapse.
A new semiclassical approach to the linear and nonlinear one-dimensional Schrödinger equation is presented. For both equations our zeroth-order solutions include nonperturbative quantum corrections to the WKB solution and the Thomas-Fermi solution, thereby allowing us to make uniformly converging perturbative expansions of the wave functions. Our method leads to a new quantization condition that yields exact eigenenergies for the harmonic-oscillator and Morse potentials.
