[Historicizing nursing and patients at a psychiatric hospital].

This is a historical research whose objective is to historicize the nursing team and the patients at the Hospital Colônia Sant'Ana (HCS), in the period from 1941 to 1960. Five employees that worked at the Hospital in the period of the study were interviewed and other documental sources were used. To analyze the data Foucault's theory was used. HCS was the main pole of psychiatric care in the Santa Catarina. The nursing team was constituted by the nuns, "male nurses" and "watchmen". The institution received indigent, private, and health insurance covered patients, who were diagnosed with many different problems, and some who were more of a social case than anything else. The general conditions of the Hospital were precarious. The studied period made possible visualize that the treatment given to the patients, as well as the work conditions offered to the workers, were distant from the ideal, and that it was part of a national policy, characterized by the creation of state macro psychiatric hospitals.

[Hilda Anna Krisch: a nursing pioneer in Santa Catarina--education and contribution for the profession].

This is a socio-historical research whose objective is to unveil the historicity of the first nurse in Santa Catarina who graduated at a Nursing School in the twentieth century, a character who had a prominent role in the national scene for her performance as a nurse. The data collection was carried out through the examination of many historical documents: interviews conducted with her and other people who had been part of the scene of the time, as well as other documentary sources, such as letters, school and professional reports, pictures, among others. To analyse the data, it was used an approach based on the social imagery. The data allowed us to identify her origins and path as a nurse, as well as the activities performed during her professional life. It can be concluded that Hilda Anna Krisch was a leader in the field not only in Santa Catarina but also in Brazil due to her role inside and outside her professional specialty.

[The senior students perception about basic nursing tools and their applicability].

This paper presents a descriptive exploratory study of student's perception about the applicability of basic nursing tools on the daily professional practice. Results highlights the factors that contribute to the continuity of dichotomy between theory and practice and the possibilities of overcoming/transformation of this reality. In addition, the study shows that the concretization of the know-how in nursing requires from each nurse to be aware of his/her personal, professional and social responsibility to offer a high quality health care, through the full professional know-how and knowledge.
