Phase synchronization in the perturbed Chua circuit.

We show experimental and numerical results of phase synchronization between the chaotic Chua circuit and a small sinusoidal perturbation. Experimental real-time phase synchronized states can be detected with oscilloscope visualization of the attractor, using specific sampling rates. Arnold tongues demonstrate robust phase synchronized states for perturbation frequencies close to the characteristic frequency of the unperturbed Chua.

Conditions for efficient chaos-based communication.

We find the conditions for a chaotic system to transmit a general source of information efficiently. Transmission of information with very low probability of error is possible if the topological entropy of the transmitted wave signal is greater than or equal to the Shannon entropy of the source message minus the conditional entropy coming from the limitations of the channel (such as equivocation by the noise). This condition may not be always satisfied both due to dynamical constraints and due to the nonoptimal use of the dynamical partition. In both cases, we describe strategies to overcome these limitations.

Information transfer in chaos-based communication.

This paper presents fundamentals of a theory to characterize chaos-based communication. We describe the amount of information a dynamical system is able to transmit, the dynamical channel capacity, which takes into account the information that a dynamical system generates.
