Diastasis of the symphysis pubis is typically associated with straddle-type pelvic trauma. A case of diastasis pubis due to a recreational water-ski accident is described here. This case is complicated with a partial urethral rupture.
The aim of this study was to investigate the rate at which abstracts orally presented at the ESGAR 2000 and 2001 meetings were published between 2000-2004, and to identify predictive factors of publication. The abstracts of ESGAR meeting presentations were reviewed and classified according to organ, modality, type of design, country of origin of the studies and basic categories of diagnostic or interventional. The presentations were searched for publication in Medline-indexed journals using the PubMed server. The publication rates of the presentations, the time period between the presentation and publication, and the journal in which the article had appeared were investigated. An overall number of 109 publications were found originating from 276 presentations (39.5%). The median and inter-quartile range [IQR] between the abstract presentation and subsequently full publication was 18 months [1.0 -53.0]. The journal with the highest number of derived articles from abstract presentation was European Radiology (n=21, 19.2%). Retrospective studies were found to be more frequently published than prospective studies (p=0.001). The publication rate did not show any statistically significant difference between groups of other classifications. The publication rate of studies orally presented at ESGAR meetings was 39.5%. No specific variable other than the type of design of the studies appeared to influence the publication rate.
Congenital seminal vesicle cysts are usually diagnosed as incidental sonographic findings in patients with voiding complaints. Rarely they could also be detected in asymptomatic cases. In our study, a seminal vesicle cyst associated with ipsilateral renal agenesis and ureteral bud remnant in an asymptomatic patient is presented.

Adenomyomatosis (adenomyomatous hyperplasia) of the gallbladder is a benign process of unknown origin that has been classified into three morphologic types: diffuse, segmental, and focal (fundal). Cases of combined (segmental and focal) forms involving the gallbladder body are very rare. We present the sonographic findings of a case having adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder body with focal as well as segmental forms of the disease.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness and long-term results of percutaneous treatment for hydatid liver cysts in pediatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-four pediatric patients (15 male, 19 female; ages 4-17 years; mean age, 9.4 years) with 51 hydatid liver cysts underwent ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous treatment with albendazole prophylaxis. There were 15 type II lesions with membrane detachment and 36 type I lesions resembling simple hepatic cysts with pure anechogenic content or small echogenic reflections and a regular well-delineated wall. The method of US-guided puncture, aspiration, injection of hypertonic saline solution, and reaspiration was preferred for 21 lesions. For the remaining 30 larger cysts, the intervention was performed with the same percutaneous technique but followed by catheterization, drainage, control cystography, and sclerotherapy with ethanol. During follow-up, US examinations were performed at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months for the first year and yearly thereafter. RESULTS: Percutaneous treatment of hepatic hydatid disease was successful in 33 patients (97.1%). During follow-up, US findings in the lesions changed significantly; at year 1, the inner content of the lesions became heterogeneous with a semisolid appearance, and the mean reduction in volume was 81.4%. At 2-year follow-up, most hydatid cysts had become solid in nature and the reduction in volume reached 65%-99% (mean, 85.1%). There were no recurrences or additional lesions after the follow-up of 1-6 years (mean, 3.1 years). Average hospital stay for the whole group in this study was 3.5 days. CONCLUSIONS: The long-term results of percutaneous liver hydatid cyst treatment in children are in accordance with the results in adults. Percutaneous treatment of uncomplicated type I and type II liver hydatid cysts in pediatric patients is an efficient and safe treatment with short hospitalization.

OBJECTIVE: Tumoral growth is an angiogenesis-dependent event. Although there are studies about the importance of histopathologic angiogenesis in various malignancies, the assessment of the angiogenesis by radiologic techniques is not well established. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of echo contrast-enhanced power Doppler ultrasonography (PDUS) in determining the angiogenic status of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). METHODS: Power Doppler ultrasonography was performed before and after intravenous administration of an echo contrast agent in 42 patients with renal masses. Twenty-one of these renal masses were diagnosed as RCC histopathologically, and these 21 patients were reevaluated retrospectively. The color pixel ratios of selected images were calculated as the ratio of the number of pixels showing power Doppler signals to the total number of pixels within the lesion. The results were compared with the histopathologic microvessel density (MVD). RESULTS: A significant correlation was found between color pixel ratio and MVD values in both PDUS techniques. The use of the echo contrast agent improved this correlation and P values (Spearman rho from 0.436 to 0.551; P from .048 to .01). CONCLUSIONS: Color pixel ratio values reflect the MVD in RCC. Therefore, these results suggest that preoperative quantification of angiogenesis can be possible with the help of PDUS in RCC.
Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) belongs to the category of systemic small-vessel vasculitis. Although long-term outcome is generally good, serious complications may occur. Thrombosis and priapism have been reported only as extremely rare complications of HSP. We describe a 37-year-old man who developed recurrent thrombotic events shortly after he had been diagnosed as having HSP. Although he had additional risk factors for thrombosis, such as prothrombin G20210A mutation and use of celecoxib before the last episode, temporal relation of the thrombotic attacks to the onset of HSP suggest that the disease itself may lead to a prothrombotic state. This case is the first adult HSP patient with priapism, which probably developed secondary to thrombosis of the dorsal penile vein.

Segmental testicular infarction is a rare clinical entity with various causes. We report the gray-scale and color Doppler sonographic findings of a case of segmental testicular infarction associated with varicocelectomy.
Congenital "true" splenic cysts are rare lesions. Therapeutic methods for the management of these lesions have been based on preserving splenic function due to the immunologic role of spleen. We report three different cases of congenital splenic cysts treated by percutaneous drainage and polidocanol sclerotherapy. This less invasive treatment appears to be safe and effective after 6 to 36 months of follow-up.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO)-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the detection of malignant liver tumors. MRI, using fast spin-echo T(2)-weighted and gradient-echo T(1)-weighted imagings before and after SPIO infusion, was performed in 32 patients with known or suspected hepatic lesions. Statistical analysis was performed using lesion-by-lesion analysis. SPIO-enhanced T(2)-weighted MRI showed results comparable to those of unenhanced T(2)-weighted MRI in the detection of focal liver lesions.
