Say syndrome: report of a familial case.

We describe a new case of Say syndrome. This syndrome is an autosomal dominant condition characterized by cleft palate, short stature of prenatal onset, large protruding ears and microcephaly, delayed bone age, and renal anomalies. The first report was in 1975 by Say et al. in three generations of a family. Three additional reports of isolated cases were published. Our propositus is a 12-month-old boy with the cardinal signs of the syndrome whose mother has only microcephaly. To our knowledge this is the second familial report with evidence of highly variable expressivity. The occurrence of renal anomalies in a son of a normal sister of his mother suggests incomplete penetrance.

Acro-fronto-facio-nasal dysostosis: report of a new Brazilian family.

We report on a Brazilian woman with severe mental retardation, facial and skeletal anomalies characterized by hypertelorism, eye anomalies, broad notched nasal tip, cleft lip, highly arched palate, camptobrachysyndactyly of fingers and toes, and anomalies of the feet. A similarly affected brother died at age one year. The clinical picture strongly suggest the diagnosis of the autosomal recessive acro-fronto-facio-nasal dysostosis syndrome (AFFND). Clinical and genetic aspects are discussed.

Ophthalmological, skeletal, and cardiac abnormalities in sibs born to consanguineous parents: a new syndrome?

We report on a sibship from a consanguineous couple consisting of one boy with anophthalmia, one boy with buphthalmos and multiple congenital skeletal, muscle, and cardiac abnormalities, and a stillborn girl with anophthalmia and cardiac and skeletal abnormalities. A possible new syndrome of autosomal recessive inheritance and variable expressivity is discussed, comparing this report with others.

Distal arthrogryposis type II D in three generations of a Brazilian family.

We report on three members of a Brazilian family with distal arthrogryposis type II D. This autosomal dominant trait was described by Hall et al [1982] and is characterized by scoliosis without associated vertebral anomalies and distal contractures. To the best of our knowledge, this family is the second literature report of distal arthrogryposis type II D.
