[Microsporum canis tinea ciliaris and blepharitis].

INTRODUCTION: The involvement of eyelashes and eyelids by dermatophytes is unfrequent. CASE REPORT: We describe such a case in a 48 year old woman, who presented with unilateral blepharitis, resistant to topical treatments with antiseptics, antibiotics and corticosteroids. Diagnosis was suspected by magnifying lens and Wood's light examination; Microsporum canis was isolated from broken eyelashes and scales of annular lesions of eyelids. CONCLUSION: This case emphasizes the interest of mycological examination of eyelashes and eyelids in front of a persisting unilateral blepharitis.

Blepharitis

[Pachydermodactyly].

INTRODUCTION: Histologically pachydermodactyly results from fibromatosis. Characteristically, the clinical picture occurs almost exclusively in young men. The lesion is localized on the laterodorsal aspect of the proximal phalanges of both hands. CASE REPORT: We observed a 19-year-old man with deformity of the laterodorsal aspect of the first phalanx of the fingers on both hands which had been present for several years. The clinical course and histology of the deformity as well as the lack of any bone lesions led to the diagnosis of pachydermodactyly. COMMENTS: Pachydermodactyl is a rare disease. Our case was comparable to those reported in the literature. A mechanical cause is accepted by most authors.

Adult

[Treatment of acne].

Treatment of acne has been largely modified during past years. This is due to a better comprehension of the physiopathological mechanisms involved and a better therapeutic approach according to the inflammatory status, the location and its extent. Also of importance as the availability of topical and systemic treatments with lead to a complete cure but recurrences cannot be excluded.

Interaction of hydrophobic organic compounds with mercury adsorbed dioleoylphosphatidylcholine monolayers.

The interaction of hydrophobic organic compounds with biological membranes is an important factor in their biological activity. A fundamental insight into the mechanisms can be obtained by examining the influence of these substances on model membrane systems. The effect of four groups of hydrophobic aromatic compounds on a mercury-adsorbed dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) monolayer is described in this paper. The compounds studied were: (1) polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), (2) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), (3) neurotoxic pesticides, and (4) phenothiazines. The monolayer properties were measured using phase-sensitive a.c. voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry. The response of the monolayer to these compounds is recorded as a change in the form of the capacity-potential curve especially with respect to two capacity peaks which correspond to two well-defined phase transitions. Planar aromatic molecules cause a negative shift of the capacity peaks, however, as the molecule becomes more globular the response becomes less and the peaks become suppressed. It is shown that planar aromatic molecules exert their effect by penetrating the hydrocarbon region of the monolayer and that there is a molecular size cut-off for higher membered PAH molecules. In addition, the monolayer is not so sensitive to the bulky PCB which have a more disruptive effect on the phase transitions and thus on the mechanisms of self-assembly of the monolayer. A direct correlation is shown between the biological membrane activity of the phenothiazines and their effect on the monolayer at submicromolar levels. A molecular selectivity of phospholipid monolayers to these compounds is indicated which has implications for their effect on biological membranes.

Adsorption

[2 cases of villous tumor of the appendix].

Villous tumors of the vermiform appendix are uncommon with two cases and a review of the literature, the authors indicate the lack in specific clinical sign, and lay stress on the importance of the pathologic study on the therapeutic management.

Adenoma

[Morphologic diagnosis of pulmonary hemorrhage].

The gross and histologic morphologic features of early and advanced pulmonary hemorrhages are easy to recognize. Although there is no close correlation between the hemorrhagic appearance of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, the histologic features of hemorrhage, and the score of hemosiderin in alveolar macrophages, studies of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples are valuable for diagnosing and monitoring pulmonary hemorrhages.
