[The adaptation of the human central nervous system to ecological job factors].

The EEG, quantity of cation proteins in neutrophils, the opioid peptides concentration in the CSF, were analysed in military personnel after a prolonged climatic and specific stress complicated by traumas, at the Kabul military hospital in Afghanistan. The brain functional reserve was significantly lower in the control subjects. A positive correlation between the brain functional reserve and the average cytochemical coefficient, was found in certain phases of traumatic disease alone. Accumulation of opioid peptides occurred under the adaptation to stress, being more evident in wounded soldiers.

Adaptation, Physiological

[Systematic analysis of the state of man exposed to radio wave irradiation for a long time].

A complex examination was made of 72 men--short-wave (3-30 MHz) radio equipment controllers. Two parallel control groups of 70 people all in all were examined. No regular changes in the dynamics of amplitude-frequency characteristics of electroencephalogram, associated with the length of service, were observed. The number of subjective complaints from people in contact with radiofrequencies increased with an increase in the length of service. The role of certain clinico-physiological parameters of the organism in the process of adaptation to electromagnetic radiation was quantitatively assessed with the use of status-metry technique; in particular, a decrease in the functional activity of the right hemisphere brain structures, aggravating with the length of service, was observed.

Adult

[Experimental analysis of biological effects of microwaves: their systemic, ultrastructural and neuronal mechanisms].

For 200 hours the cats were exposed to microwaves of 2375 mHz, the energy current density being 500 mWt/cm2. 6 diversions of the electrocorticogram and multi-cellular activity were registered by coal electrodes. After the exposure an electro-microscopic study of the lateral hypothalamic brain field was carried out. Under the radiation effect synchronization of slow bioelectric activity over the range of 6-10 to 12-16 took place. The analysis of the conditional probability matrix of series generation of action potential in the studied structures demonstrated their functional separation according to multi-cellular activity parameters in proportion to exposure growth. Damage of axodendritic synapses which provided morphologic links between brain structures was considered its morphologic substrate.

Action Potentials

[Cyclic interactions in the processes of adaptation regulation].

Human adaptation is characterised by essential changes of functional systems biorhythms which appears in the changes of their components' sequence and in the dynamics of biorhythmological cycles. These objective laws, having been described for human EEG, allow to discern clearly the individual-typological peculiarities in man with different stages of adaptation, the same as the adaptive shifts during long-term influence of external factors. The cyclic course of adaptative processes is regarded as a measure of adaptability. With the help of biorhythmic multitude the memory is constantly satiated from the brain by discrete portions of adaptogenic information, which prevents the natural processes of the memory disintegration.

Adaptation, Physiological

[Ultrastructure of cells of the lateral field of the hypothalamus of the cat after exposure to electromagnetic radiation].

Under the effect of electromagnetic radiation not any specific changes are revealed in the neural system unequivocally characterizing disturbances in its structure as a result of an excess absorption of electromagnetic energy. The ultrastructural changes revealed in the lateral fields of the cat hypothalamus are suitable for a well known scheme demonstrating the course of the pathological process, where three phases are distinguished: reactive, destructive and restorative. The pathological process develops gradually. The reactive changes in neurons and synapses, observed immediately after withdrawal of the electromagnetic action. increase during the following three months and result in coarse destructive disorders and in death of some neurons and synapses. In 6 months certain signs of restoration of the structures are observed. Under the effect of electromagnetic radiation water redistribution between the structures takes place, the sympathetic terminals loosing their fluid. Thus, certain conditions are produced for sticking together the synaptic vesicles. Possibly that deficiency of Ca++ ions contributes to it.

Animals

[Individual characteristics of the behavior, learning and adaptation of rats exposed to extreme conditions].

Techniques of open field, instrumental food conditioning and acute hypoxic hypoxia were used in experiments on white rats which had been divided into three groups: low--(I), middle--(II) and high-entropy (III). The III group rats were characterized by high motor activity, various postures and states which seemed to account for fast instrumental conditioning of these rats. Rats of the II and III groups (67% of all the rats) proved most resistant against hypoxia and therefore more adaptable to extreme factors.

Acute Disease

[Cyclic interaction of brain structures in different states and different types of activity].

Special method of multichannel EEG analysis with the aid of the matrix of consistent zero-crossing points distribution within the multichannel EEG registration calculated for the different functional states and behaviour revealed the cyclic forms of bilateral interrelationship between the brain structures. The variety of consistent connections increases in EEG-biofeedback food behaviour and visual stimulation, but the cycles prolongation decreases. The combination of zero-crossing points consistently distributed for different brain structures is typical for each functional state.

Animals

[Adaptive modification of neurophysiologic and vegetative processes during positive food and negative taste autoreinforcement].

A certain rhythm in brain activity of the cat was reinforced with milk in one series of feedback experiments, and with KCl solution--in another series. The 1st series feedback augmented the rhythm, particularly in the 12--15 Hz range, in the sensory--motor area. Obvious minimization of the rhyth m occurred in the 2nd series within the range of 4--7 Hz only, and negative reinforcement of the 12--15 Hz rhythm in these series induced neurosis. The vegetative activity estimated by the cardio--interval dynamics, was regarded as the correlate of emotional tension induced by biologically significant effect.
