[Adaptation of a 4-year-old chimpanzee to an unusual stimulus].

A complex of adaptive reactions have been observed in response to the unusual irritants in 4-year chimpanzee infant. It includes the orienting-research, passive defence reactions, avoidance of irritant, transfer on co-operation with experimenter, aggressive reactions to unusual irritants. The analysis of behaviour reactions and cardiac rhythm has revealed that playing with an experimentator and aggressive reactions are the most reliable way of adaptation which prevents strong and long emotional stress. A social system "chimpanzee-experimentator" on a positive parity basis is an important condition for promoting the appearance of the mentioned adaptation reaction.

[Construction in chimpanzees].

Chimpanzees with the help of reconstruction and the "step-by-step" analysis of a figure--sample can plan a circuit of actions, forming an image of an end result. Ability to such actions proves at them an opportunity of cogitative operations, allowing to collect multielement figures on a sample. Generalization of concrete operations with concrete elements creates the precondition for the generalized understanding of a principle of actions--knowledge--in general to collect separate elements in complex designs. In it the powerful conceptual potential chimpanzees is covered. It allows to use chimpanzees as model preverbal a level of thinking.

[The effect of social factors on the process of learning complex forms of behavior in adolescent chimpanzees].

Learning behaviour in chimpanzee has been investigated on a group of three animals at the age of 5-6 years. Situation conditioned reflex was elaborated in unrestrained monkeys which were trained to visual discrimination between abstract images of various complexity. Changes in experimental situation significantly affected learning process. It was shown that social contacts with experimenter are important for the effective learning in juvenile chimpanzee.

[The characteristics of the forms of perceptive and cognitive activities in adolescent chimpanzees].

The study of cognitive activity in four 4-6-year-old chimpanzees was carried out during visual their discriminating and summarizing of signals (pictures of natural objects and volume figures). It was established that apes were able to compare the signals according to their size. Chimpanzees were successful in transferring their experience from one image type to another. The data obtained proof that apes were able to summarize, operate with abstract ideas and think logically.

[Cognitive activity during the recognition of a different number of objects in the adolescent chimpanzee].

The ability of adolescent chimpanzee (5-7 years old) to recognise and generalize flat pictures of discrete amounts has been studied. A set of tasks (19 signal pairs) with pictures of different number of objects was used. Situational conditional reflexes of chimpanzee were developed in conditions of free behavior. Chimpanzee were taught to choose a large number of pictures. Reversion ability at conversion of signal value of irritants was examined. It is shown that chimpanzee are able to transfer the early developed knowledge to choose larger picture to larger number of objects. It points to rather developed function of generalization, and ability to make abstracts. Resolution of tasks with reversion appeared to be difficult for chimpanzee. Correlation between the ability to solve tasks of different complexity, latent period of choice and etiological indexes is revealed. Both common regularities and individual differences in formation of complex behaviour of chimpanzee are established.
