[Isolation and study of the properties of a polyvalent corpuscular Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccine. An evaluation of the biological properties of a polyvalent corpuscular Pseudomonas aeruginosa vaccine].

P. aeruginosa killed polyvalent corpuscular vaccine, tested in a trial on 42 volunteer donors, is safe, low reactogenic and possesses pronounced immunogenicity, as the injection of the vaccine induced a rise in the titer of antibodies to P. aeruginosa up to 1:1280 in 95% of the immunized donors. To obtain specific antibodies in the blood plasma of the donors in an amount sufficient for the protective activity of the plasma becoming manifest, it is expedient to use the vaccination schedule providing for subcutaneous injections of 0.5, 0.5 and 1.0 ml at intervals of 7 days. Intense immunity thus induced in the donors lasts for 3-4 months. The hyperimmune plasma obtained from the donors has an antibody titer of at least 1:320 and shows a 90-100% protective effect in mice infected intraperitoneally with P. aeruginosa. The preliminary results of the clinical trial of anti-P. aeruginosa plasma have demonstrated its efficiency as a part of the complex treatment of patients with purulent septic complications of P. aeruginosa etiology.

[Role of immunotherapy in the treatment of suppurative mediastinitis].

In the treatment of 34 patients with suppurative mediastinitis a specific immune therapy was used in addition to surgical methods. Direct specific immune therapy as an element of the complex treatment of suppurative mediastinitis resulted in a more favourable development of the process and reduced lethality.

[Immunoenzyme method of diagnosing suppurative-septic complications due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus].

Two test systems, based on the inhibition of the reaction of enzyme-labeled antibodies and on the indirect reaction of enzyme-labeled antibodies, have been developed with a view to diagnosing purulent and septic complications caused by P. aeruginosa and Proteus in accordance with the results of the determination of the corresponding microbial antigens and antibodies to these antigens in the patients' blood. An increase in the levels of P. aeruginosa and Proteus antigens during the first 3 days of the development of complications and in the titers of antibodies on days 7-10 indicates that the purulent septic complication is caused by the given infective agent. A high correlation of the results obtained by bacteriological and serological diagnostic methods has been observed.

[Hyperbaric oxygenation in the prevention of wound infection in open injury to the locomotor apparatus].

Hyberbaric oxygenation in altitude chambers OKA-MT was used in the complex of prophylactic measures against wound infection in 91 patients with open traumas of the extremities (fractures, amputations, etc.). The effect of hyperbaric oxygenation on the external respiration was studied by the method of spirography. Tetrapolar rheography was used to follow the central hemodynamics. A number of immune parameteres were also studied. Hyperbaric oxygenation was established to abolish hyperventilation and myocardium hyperdynamia, to accelerate the recovery of the neutrophil phagocytic activity and immunoglobulin level, to contribute to the quicker diminishing of edema in the wound area and healing of the stump and open fracture without suppuration, early formation of dry necrosis with a distinct line of demarcation.
