[Mass tracing of Aedes vexans vexans by means of radioactive phosphorus for the study of their flight range from the breeding sites].

In the valley of the Upper Yenisei IV instar larvae of A. vexans vexans were traced with 32P and then 1.86 mln imagos were released. Among 442 857 mosquitoes caught after hatching 243 were traced. Most of the traced individuals did not yet start looking for prey and were caught during the first five days near the hatching site. 14 radioactive females were caught within 4.5 km distance from the hatching site in the following weeks.

[A response of the biota to climatic warming on Europe].

Data on the impact of climatic warming on a number of phenomena in the life of plants, animals, biocenoses, and parasitic systems of transmissible diseases are presented. Emphasis is laid on the ambiguity of responses shown by species to the same exposures, which makes any forecasting of the consequences of climatic warming very difficult, frequently unrealistic and hence it is necessary to arrange an epizootological monitoring of malaria and other transmissible diseases.

[Data on the spread of Culex pipiens on the territory of the USSR].

A map of Culex pipiens molestus distribution over the USSR was made using data of sanitary epidemiological stations of various regions of the country, literature and the authors' own data. It was shown that during the last decades (1978-1990) the Cx. p. molestus breeding occurring predominantly in flooded basements of comfortable houses, especially in new built towns and cities, was recorded throughout the European part of the USSR including some subarctic regions. Cx. p. molestus is also widespread in the Asiatic part of the country including Western and Eastern Siberia, southern regions of Far East and the Sakhalin Island and Kamchatka. In the permafrost areas, most of new houses are built on piles without basements and cellars, and it prevents Cx. p. molestus breeding. The dates of appearance of these mosquitos in various parts of the country due to the development of transportation are discussed.

[Detection of Aedes (Stegomyia) Aegypti L. mosquitoes in Sochi city].

Few Aedes aegypti females were found when collecting the mosquitoes attacking human beings in the Central District of Sochi in August to September 2001-2004. Ae. aegypti, a vector of dangerous causative agents of diseases, such as yellow and Aden fevers, appeared on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus is recorded after its long absence. By taking into account the potential epidemic value of Ae. aegypti, it is necessary to make a monitoring in the cities, towns, and settlements to establish the spread, number, and the breading sites of mosquitoes in the given area and to prevent their mass reproduction. The effectiveness of Ae. albopictus as a vector of Aden fever has been established in different regions of the world. Entomological surveys for Ae. albopictus should be made in the areas of Russia where Ae. aegypti mosquitoes were distributed early in the past century, particularly in the southern port towns and settlements of Russia. Ae. albopictus is potentially able to spread to the north further than is Ae. aegypti.
