The issue of whether patients should be allowed access to professional notes has long been a continuous one in nursing and medical circles. Stephen Wright and Naz Khadim discuss how their nursing development unit approached the issue in a positive, innovative and organised fashion. Results suggest that while few patients take up the opportunity of reading their notes, having the power of access to them encourages a sense of satisfaction.
