[Morphological changes in the functioning ovary of the rat after unilateral ovariectomy].

Unilateral ovariectomy was carried out of thirty female rats of the Wistar race, aged 45 days. The morphologic changes in the remaining functional ovary were followed up in compliance with the phase of the estrus cycle of the investigated animals. It was established that the greater size of the hyperthrophic ovary was due to the faster growth of follicles as well as to the increased number of corpora aliena and the strongly proliferated interstitium. In metestrus and diestrus there was also a faster process of follicular atresia. During the proestrus-estrus phase these processes involved mainly the preovulatory follicles. The morphologic changes observed in the functioning follicle were primarily due to the releasing factors and the gonadotropic hormones of the hypothalamo-hypophysial system the normal level of which proved high as they acted not on two, but on one gonad.

[Changes in the elastic fibers of the skin in rats after long-term motor loading and immobilization].

The histologic changes were followed up that took place in the elastic fibers of the skin of a total of 30 female rats of the Wistar line at the initial age of 45 days. The animals were kept under the conditions of enhanced or lowered locomotor activity. It was found that as functional elements in the particular layers of the skin the elastic fibers altered considerably their specific morphologic characteristic under the effect of a varying loading the body with muscular activity. The skin of those of the animals that were loaded with enhanced locomotion presented a strongly developed hyperplastic net of elastic fibers of considerable thickness and density. On the other hand, the skin of the animals that were immobilized showed atrophic and reduction processes involving the elastic tissue; in such case the characteristic structure and network arrangement were only presented by sporadic fibres and bundles. The changes seen in the structure and organization of the elastic tissue once again demonstrated the importance of the higher or lower functional loading of the body with physical work for the development of hyper- or hypotrophic processes in the various tissues and organs.

[Morphometric studies of the changes in reproductive activity of the rat ovaries in regimens of immobilization and motor activity].

White female rats from the Wistar strain were divided into three groups: the first--subjected to heavy motion exercises, the second--used as control, and the third--immobilized. Motion stress was accomplished by use of a tretbahn, while immobilization was effected by the use of a method for physiological immobilization invented by the authors. A considerable reduction in corpus luteum number (number of ovulations) was observed in the immobilized animals. In most cases cystic degeneration, ovarian hypoplasia, obliteration and obturation as well as salpingitis were observed in these animals also. In pregnant immobilized rats only a small number of embryos was found, high percent of embryo mortality, fetal growth retardation and a considerable thickening and folding of the endometrium with numerous blood cells mainly histocytes and lymphocytes under the epithelium. No visible deviations from the normal condition and function of the gonads were observed in the control animals while in those under motion stress data indicating a certain improvement in the reproductive activity were obtained.
