[Suprasegmental autonomic regulation in syringomyelia patients and its alteration during radionuclide therapy].

Limbic-reticular dysfunction due to pathologic rearrangement in functional intracentral relations was evidenced in 85 syringomyelic patients. The dysfunction was initiated by the syringomyelic inflicted focus within the brainstem (syringobulbia) or spinal cord. Displayed were the psychoemotional, unspecific activational and hemodynamic correlates of this pathophysiological phenomenon. This is the first description of the radioactive iodine positive effect on limbic-reticular dysfunction in syringomyelia.

[Correction of the hormonal activity of the thyroid gland as a method of pathogenetic therapy in the complex treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy].

Corrective therapy (by thyroidin, di-iodo-thyrosine) of disturbed hormonal activity of the thyroid gland was carried out in 30 patients with temporal epilepsy. There was a favourable immediate (1,5 years) therapeutical effect: the epileptic paroxysms either disappeared or their frequency was reduced, significant normalization of the EEG and iodine metabolism, and improvement in the mental state of the patients were shown. It is recommended to include hormonal correction of the activity of the thyroid gland in the comprehensive treatment of patients with temporal epilepsy.

[State of iodine metabolism in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy].

Using a radioisotope concurrent analysis the authors studied the concentration of general thyroxine (T4), the coefficient of effective thyroxine, the equivalent content of free thyroxine in the blood serum and the fixating capabilities of plasma protein in relation to T3 in patients with temporal epilepsy. The study depicted complex changes of the hormonal activity of the thyroid gland. Considering the amount of the index of free thyroxine and coefficient of effective thyroxine, the state of the thyroid gland in cases of dissociated indices was qualified as hypo-, hyper- and euthyroid (respectively in 3, 8 and 10 patients). The authors discuss the possible pathogenetical significance of changes in the hormonal activity of the thyroid gland.

[The diagnostic value of screening the subarachnoid space in syringomyelia and other diseases of the spinal cord and its meninges].

The paper is concerned with the results of myeloscanning of the subarachnoidal space in 32 patients with diseases of the spinal cord and its pia. The studies were conducted with albumin of human sera and labeled I131. The authors give a scannographical characteristics of the pathology of the subarachnoidal space in syringomyelia which included a change in the configuration, a deformation of the silhouette contour with marginal defects and focal irregular distribution of the isotope. In tumors of the spinal cord this method permits to defict the existence of a complete or partial block of liquor paths and the level of their occlusions. The author recommends a wider use of sabarachnoidal scanning when examining patients with lesions of the spinal cord and its pia pointing to the preciseness, simplicity and security of this method.

Adult

[Functional state of the thyroid gland and thyrotropic activity of the hypophysis in patients with dyspituitarism of the puberto-adolescent period].

The authors report the results of study of the thyroid gland function in 72 patients with dyspituitrism of the puberto-juvenile period; the thyrotropic activity of the hypophysis was also studied in 37 of these patients. It was revealed that the TTH level could change both in the direction of decrease and of elevation; the inorganic phase of the iodine metabolism was reduced and the organic one--elevated. Such disproportion between the inorganic and organic phases of iodine metabolism in this disease was attributed to the hormonal disbalance, the excess in the organism of glucocorticoids and estrogens.

[State of the hypothalamo-hypophyseo-thyroid system in severe craniocerebral injuries].

The amount of the pituitary thyrotropic hormone and the thyroid hormones (T4, T3, KET) in the serum of 30 patients with severe craniocerebral trauma was studied in dynamics from the 1st and until the 30th day of the disease. Marked disorders in the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-thyroid system were revealed in the form of hypersecretion of the thyrotropic hormone and profound inhibition of the thyroid function. Both the transport-organic and the metabolic phase of metabolism of the thyroid hormones suffer, with prevalent changes in the former. Disturbed thyroid metabolism is an essential link in the pathogenesis of a severe craniocerebral trauma and calls for the corresponding correction.
