[Effect of vitamin D metabolites on the markers of protein, calcium and phosphorus turnover in children with chronic renal failure].

Amino acid analysis and investigation of nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus balance were done in two groups of the patients with renal failure and osteodystrophy on the Vitamin D metabolites and analogues treatment. The results of the investigation confirm vitamin D metabolites influence on free amino acid turnover and on nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus balance. We observed significant decreases of blood amino acids and good influence on renal osteodystrophy in patients treated with the vitamin D metabolites. Vitamin D metabolites didn't influence on the retention, urinary and fecal excretion of endogenous nitrogen in patients with renal failure.

[Connection between the level of transferrin in blood plasma and the level of malondialdehyde in mouse liver].

To study possible correlation between plasma transferrin content and level of 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (malonic dialdehyde (MDA)) in the liver of mice, these parameters were assayed during brombenzol-induced lipid peroxidation and when this process was inhibited by zinc-metallothionein (zinc-MT). In 24 h after brombenzol injection (0.5-2 g/kg intraperitoneally), mice had decreased blood transferrin concentration and increased MDA level in the liver. On the contrary, in 24 h after the zinc-MT injection (1-4 mg/kg intraperitoneally), blood transferrin concentration was 2-3-fold increased and liver MDA content was 2-3-fold decreased. The effects of zinc-MT were observed even in brombenzol-injected animals. Zinc-MT injection increased total transferrin content in the blood and decreased glycosylation of this glycoprotein. Changes in blood transferrin content negatively correlates (r = -0.75) with changes in liver MDA. The data confirm that plasma transferrin can participate in regulation of tissue lipid peroxidation.

[The effect of vitamin A on the glycoprotein fraction composition of rat plasma].

Content of main glycoprotein fractions was studied in rat blood plasma under conditions of vitamin A avitaminosis and of subnormal consumption of the vitamin. Main protein fractions were estimated simultaneously with relative content of glycoproteins which was calculated per mg of total proteins. Relative content of gamma-glycoproteins was increased in avitaminosis A, which appears to occur due to elevation of gamma-globulin synthesis in response to secondary infection or intoxication, while the level of alpha 1- and alpha 2-glycoproteins was decreased simultaneously as a result of possible impairment of protein glycosylation in liver tissue. Subnormal consumption of retinol did not alter content of many protein fractions in blood, however under these conditions absolute content of alpha 1-, alpha 2- and beta 2-glycoproteins as well as relative content of alpha 2-glycoproteins were decreased, thus leading to increase in relative content of underglycosylated proteins in blood. Vitamin A appears to be essential for biosynthesis of individual but not of total blood glycoproteins.

[Effect of zinc-metallothionein on lipid peroxidation in blood plasma and in mouse liver in acute alcoholic intoxication].

The reduction of malondialdehyde (MDA) content in mouse blood plasma and liver 1h-1 day after the acute ethanol poisoning (3 g/kg) was discovered. Rat liver zinc-metallothionein in a dose 2 mg/kg inoculated before the alcohol introduction restored the MDA level to norm; at the same time the mixture which modulated this protein (albumin, cysteine and zinc) had only the tendency to normalization of the MDA level. On the third day after the poisoning in all cases the 2-2.5 times increase of the plasma MDA level was shown, but the liver MDA content did not change in comparison with the control. The number of the possible explanation of reduction of plasma lipid peroxidation level in the early time after the ethanol poisoning was proposed (hypoxy, aldehyde dehydrogenase activation etc.). It is supposed that zinc-metallothionein influence is connected with its capacity to inactivate acetaldehyde.
