[The efficacy of the conservative treatment of patients with acute appendicitis on board ships at sea].

Under study was efficiency of conservative treatment of 247 patients with acute appendicitis on ships in the sea depending on the age of patients, clinical manifestations of the disease, volume of medicamentous therapy and time of taking medical advice. It was established that conservative treatment is most effective if started within the first 6 hs from the beginning of the disease and antibiotics were used in combination with spasmolytics, antihistamines and sulfanilamides. Patients treated conservatively had pronounced inclinations to delimiting the inflammatory process in the abdominal cavity.

[Blood reinfusion in penetrating gunshot wounds of the abdomen].

On the basis of literature and their own experience in performing the reinfusion of bacteria-contaminated blood in 20 patients with gunshot penetrating abdominal injuries the authors make a conclusion that in critical cases there are no alternative to application of reinfusion. The article gives clinical examples and contains data concerning the character of lesions. Indications and counter-indications for reinfusion are enclosed.

[Combined cycles--a new form of advanced training for physicians. Initial experience and perspectives].

A new organizational form of postgraduate training of physicians was substantiated. Thus it became possible to combine high educational, methodological and scientific potential of the institutes (faculties) of advanced training of physicians with the possibilities of large hospitals in applied training of physicians. Combined specialized cycles on ophthalmology demonstrated a number of advantages of such training compared to the traditional techniques and also indicated some conditions for raising its effectiveness. Even now it is possible to expand the range of specialties on combined training of physicians and in the future to reorganize training of young interns.
