[Effectiveness of liposomal antibacterial drugs in the inhalation therapy of experimental tuberculosis].

The model of generalized tuberculosis in BALB/c mice was used to compare efficacy of daily and intermittent (2 times a week) regimens of ultrasound inhalation therapy. This employed water-soluble and liposomal dosages of antituberculous drugs. The highest effect was achieved in daily inhalations of liposomal drugs. In spite of the fact that intermittent regime of the liposomal drugs required a 2-fold lowered dosage, its efficacy was not inferior to daily water-soluble drug therapy and was only by 22% less than maximum. High response to liposomal form stems from prolonged persistence of high rifampicin concentrations in pulmonary tissue.

[Possible mechanisms of the occurrence of chromosome restructurings. IV. Chromosome restructurings in spontaneous mutagenesis].

An attempt was undertaken to modify the spontaneous mutation process by varying its conditions in somatic cells of different species and tissues. The rate of chromosome aberrations and their types were studied in anaphase and metaphase. Under normal conditions, chromosome breaks were only found to occur. Breakage of chromosomes occurs during interphase, and as a result, acentric fragments are located outside the equatorial plate during metaphase. This process of chromosome breakage leads to elimination of some genetic material, without concomitant exchanges, and therefore, it has been named "elimination" process. Spontaneous chromosome mutagenesis manifesting itself at cytogenetic level was concluded to be an elimination process directed to elimination of a portion of chromatin from chromosomes. When the conditions of spontaneous mutagenesis are altered, in particular, by cardiovascular diseases in man, by partial inhibition of DNA repair in mice and pea cells, by transformation of Chinese hamster cells, upon ageing of pea seeds-qualitative changes in the chromosomal aberrations are registered, connected with the appearance of chromosome exchanges and acentric fragments situated within the equatorial plate during metaphase. These two types of chromosome aberrations are proposed to be considered as new criteria of pathology. A system of processes was suggested to exist, preventing the appearance of aberrations during mitosis, and it is supposed to be one of the most significant homeostatic systems.

[Effect of different sera on amniotic cell growth in culture].

The growth properties of the FCS (calf foetus serum), obtained from the blood of died fetals have been investigated, the "Gibco" FCS and human serum IV being used as a control. It was shown, that FCS prepared in our laboratory provided the growth and karyotyping of amniotic cells in vitro. This FCS was equally effective for cell planting as was human serum IV and somewhat less effective than the "Gibco" FCS. The FCS obtained in our laboratory is not deficient, and cheap. It may be recommended for a wide use in prenatal detection of genetic disorders.

[The effect of 0-methylhydroxylamine on the chromosomes of Chinese hamster cells].

0-methylhydroxylamine increases the frequency of all kinds of aberrations in Chinese hamster cells, except chromatid exchange. The percentage of aberrant metaphases and the average number of breakages per cell increases by 5,5-6 times as compared with the control. OMHA proves to be very effective inducer of chromosome aberrations. Since OMHA induces, except gene mutations, also chromosome aberrations, there are reasons to suppose that its effect is connected not only with transitions, but also with some other molecular mechanisms.
