[Structural organization of red blood cell membranes in pregnant women with gestosis].

Activated lipid peroxidation (LPO) was found to occur with decreased antioxidative activity (AOA) in gestosis, by deteriorating the structural and functional properties of cell membranes. This enhanced the permeability of the phospholipid bilayer and altered the function of membranous proteins and the synthesis of biologically active agents, by involving the systems responsible for microcirculatory homeostasis. Enhanced membrane hydrophilicity and increased LPO and AOA are typical of the second and third trimesters of normal pregnancy. Pregnant with gestosis generally show higher microviscosity and hydrophilicity of membranes and enhanced blood LPO.

[The structural status of red blood cell membranes in children with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Examination by spin probe].

Using spin probes-stearic acid analogues, the authors investigated the microviscosity and the a/b parameter of red blood cell membranes in children with diabetes mellitus. The structural changes were correlated with altered metabolic measurements. The change in the pathway of insulin in diabetes mellitus led to the structural state of red blood cell membranes.

[The state of erythrocyte membranes in diabetes mellitus].

Study of red cell membranes in diabetics has shown that physicochemical shifts in the red cell membrane lipid bilayer, elevated lipid peroxidation, and disordered thiol compound metabolism are among the crucial aspects in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus. EPR spectroscopy in complex with other biochemical methods will help monitor the adequacy of therapy.

[Effects of crush syndrome on insulin receptor interactions in cells].

Comparative study of binding insulin receptor mononuclears, erythrocytes and hepatocytes of crush-syndrome revealed great difference in these parameters. In the early period of crush-syndrome (stress period insulin insufficiency hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, decrease in the activity of insulin binding in the mononuclears and increase in the activity of erythrocytes. By the 6 hour crush-syndrome (toxemic period) hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia, are observed as well as prolongation of the decrease in the activity of insulin binding of mononuclears.

[Correction of metabolic disorders by magnetic-laser irradiation (experimental study)].

Five series of experiments were conducted on a model of hepatic insufficiency caused by obstructive jaundice to study the effect of semiconductor infrared laser in a range of 800-900 nm with a static magnetic field on some metabolic changes in the organism. Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were used. The region of the liver was irradiated through an intact epilated skin. The results provide evidence that a definite role in the pathogenesis of hepatic insufficiency is played by intensification of LPO processes and diminution of antioxidant defence which leads, in turn, to reduction of the insulin-receptor interrelations and sharp decrease of hepatic cell metabolism.

[State of insulin receptors and carbohydrate metabolism in children with diabetes mellitus].

Diabetes mellitus children demonstrate the lowering of insulin binding by lymphocytes on appearance of the signs of insulin overdosage. After standard breakfast preceded by insulin injection such patients show a lower blood content of ATP as compared to children without metabolic signs of insulin overdosage, which may be of importance in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance development. Patients with type I diabetes mellitus and hyperlactatemia manifested the lowering of glucose assimilation by lymphocytes whatever the presence of the signs of insulin overdosage, pointing to insulin resistance.

[The effect on the liver of a semiconductor IR laser with a constant magnetic field].

Comparative appraisal of the effect of repeated percutaneous action of semiconductor IR-laser, magnetic field, and a combination of these two factors on the liver showed metabolic changes to be sharply manifest in the first 10 days after exposure to the different variants of action. After 20 irradiation sessions the metabolic changes were less manifest and became stabilized in subsequent irradiation of the animals, which may probably be attributed to certain adaptation of the hepatic tissue to the prolonged effect of the factor. The distinguishing feature of the magnetic-laser effect was an increase of the main substrates of energy metabolism (glucose and lipids) and a stable malonic dialdehyde content with a predominant tendency towards neutralization of free-radical reactions. All this justifies the experimental substantiation of the necessity of using a semiconductor IR-laser with a constant magnetic field for correcting metabolic disorders associated with hepatic insufficiency.

[The possibility of correcting metabolic disorders in experimental liver cirrhosis by cryodestruction and plasma-flow resection].

The first week after the cryodestruction, the resection of plasma flow and combined effect of the two methods causes metabolic changes, which later according to observations are normalized. The metabolic disturbances, which are connected with experimental liver cirrhosis under the combined cryodestructive effect and plasma flow resection are normalized three weeks after treatment. But there is no elimination of defects of free radical oxidation and there remains a decreased insulin binding capability of lymphocytes. All these processes should be taken into account in surgical treatment of liver cirrhosis.

[Effect of plasma flow on the regeneration of skin wounds and body reactivity].

The local application of plasma flow to postsurgery wounds in rabbits has revealed accelerated wound healing, reduced perifocal inflammation, the appearance of great numbers of phagocytes and islands of epithelial cells in the wound and certain stimulation of hemopoietic body function. The suppression of free-radical oxidation was accompanied by the activation of the metabolic processes. All this justifies an attempt to apply "plasma methods" in the clinical practice for the treatment of long-healing wounds.
