Of 8,390 children necropsies, 1,249 showed congenital malformations. Thirteen different malformations were recorded relatively often and are here designated as common. Of the necropsied children 914 had only one of these common malformations, and 140 more than one. A variety of less common anomalies was found in the remaining 195 necropsies. The 13 selected common malformations were analyzed statistically to establish whether there was significant clustering of them. Only five of the common malformations proved to be significantly associated. Both frequency and variability of complication differed considerably between groups of common malformations. There was an overall preponderance of males with the common anomalies but the different anomalies differed in respect to sex ratio.
The quantitative and qualitative finger and palm ridge characteristics of a sample of Italian schizophrenic males showed minor deviations which were neither pathognomonic of the illness as a whole, nor of its Leonhard sub-groups. In essence there was a slight tendency for an increase in finger loops, particularly on middle fingers, with a decrease of whorls, and the palmar ridges tended to a more transverse course than usual. Compared with two sets of controls there was an excess of short schizophrenic males.

Dermatoglyphic characteristics, both quantitative and qualitative, of fingers and palms of 19 46,XY propositae with the complete form of the testicular feminization syndrome, derived from 28 index kinships, have been analysed in detail. The results reveal trends which allow the tentative conclusions to be reached that in normal circumstances, and insofar as the sex chromosome influence is concerned, aspects of the development of the palmar patterns of loops and triradii may be directly influenced by the sex chromosomal complement of the fetus; by contrast the digital ridges, and, secondarily, the digital patterns, may be influenced to an extent by testicular androgens.
