[Difficulties and errors in the treatment of infected wounds].

Errors resulting in delayed healing of wounds (266 observations) can be divided into 2 groups: inexpedient drainage of the purulent wounds and irrational local application (on the wound) of drugs. The latter was found to consist in the use of drugs without the phase of the inflammatory process taken into consideration and in the continuous application of one and the same drug. The resulting drug allergy prevented the wound healing.

[Treatment errors in suppurative and inflammatory diseases].

The experience of treatment of 1011 patients with suppurative inflammatory diseases is described. In 292 of them the surgical intervention was found to be late. The analysis of errors has shown that it is not necessary to wait for the appearance of reliable symptoms of accumulation of pus. In the postoperative period 34 patients were not given proper drainage of purulent cavities. When prescribing corticosteroids, contraindications should be taken into consideration as well as hormonal characteristics of the patient and the sensitivity of his microbial flora of antibiotics.

[Surgical errors in acute diseases of the abdominal cavity organs].

Case histories of dead patients were analyzed in whose life-time errors were made in diagnosis of acute abdomen. It was established that in 90 patients acute abdomen was hypodiagnozed, in 10 cases the abdominal catastrophe was hyperdiagnozed, in 4 patients the localization of the injured organ was not determined properly. The error found mainly resulted from atypical course of the disease due to age of the patients, medication effects and abnormal disposition of the injured organ, as well as to concomitant diseases and complications. The role of the attention factor in the genesis of errors is emphasized.
