The model of a total duodenal-gastric reflux was developed in 20 dogs and morphological changes in the stomach were studied. 5 dogs served as control. Histologic changes occurred 3.5 months and 1 year after the operation were characterized by metachromasia, increased mucus formation, proliferation of epithelial and parietal cells, moderate inflammation. Process of the disease had fluctuations. 6 months after the operation 5 dogs were reoperated for the elimination of reflux and were observed for another 6 months. A complete reversibility of all changes was established. Bacteriological studies showed a considerable increase of bacteria population in the stomach and a pH increase. The authors suggest the term 'reflux gastropathy" to replace the term "alkaline reflux-gastritis".
The method for the two-cycle cultivation of V. cholerae, reference strains Inaba and Ogawa, in a fermenter has been developed. In the first and second cultivation cycles no difference in the yield of the biomass and in the ultrastructure of the vibrios has been established. In the second cycle a decrease in the minimum time of generation has been observed. The vaccines obtained in the first and second cultivation cycles have not been found to differ in their antigenic and immunogenic activity. The vaccines meet the WHO requirements.
Bacterial hemorrhagic septicemia in rainbow trout is reported for the first time in this country, with Yersinia ruckeri as causative agent. The identification of the isolated strains was carried out on the basis of morphologic, cultural, and biochemical properties. Described are the morphologic changes, giving some epizootiologic data. Stated is the employment of an immunochemical method for differential diagnosis, based on changes that take place in the plasmal lipoproteins of diseased trouts. It has been found that the immunoelectrophoresis of sera of trouts infected with Yersinia ruckeri, using rabbit antisera against trout plasmal proteins reveals only traces of the molecularly destroyed alfa- and beta-lipoproteins.
