Multi-channel amplifier system for computerized topographic EEG analysis.

Topographic analysis of EEG and evoked potentials requires the computer processing of data from multi-lead recording. The use of 20 or more channels is now quite common, straining the resources of the usual EEG machine. We present a design for a high gain, low noise, 32-channel amplifier matched to computer data acquisition requirements. Low cost and small size are additional benefits to the design.

A computerized system for determination of reaction time, movement time, and movement accuracy.

Automated procedures for assessing movement speed and accuracy, and reaction time in normal subjects and patients with neurological diseases are described. Two capacitative touch pads were designed to respond to impedance changes resulting from finger contact on the surfaces of the pads. A micro-computer acquired and analyzed data on-line from patients with Parkinson's disease and normal subjects. Indices of abnormal motor function in the patients, such as slowed movement time, and efficacy of therapeutic agents were demonstrated with the system.

Behavioral motor evaluation for neurotoxicity screening.

Behavioral motor testing is an important aspect of neurotoxicity screening. Previous test batteries have focused on simple measures of motor performance such as tapping rate, movement times and reaction times. These measures, although valuable in certain instances, do not provide a comprehensive description of motor disorders. An alternate approach to evaluate behavioral motor deficits is to use simple behaviors as an initial guide for the study of coordinated movements in more natural and thus more complex situations. The advantages of such an approach may be insights into the central neural correlates of motor disorders caused by toxic agents.
